No, I wasn’t aware of a cave. Which entrance was it near, north or south?
Its been so long, the cave might have been at the entrance to Pine Valley. At our young age & size it was hard for us to get through the opening. We just happened to find it by accident, if I am remembering correctly.
The quarters we had were duplexes, and Coach Smith (he was either the offensive or defensive coach of the Falcons, but I can't remember his first name) lived in the duplex connected to our duplex. They had like little basements, and his was full of broken glass. Because that was where he would take out his frustrations, and where we would throw a few against eh wall ourselves, he used to take me to the Olympic swimming pool that had the diving platforms. I think it was the 30 foot platform that he would allow me to jump off of.
I remember Davis Monthan more because of the plane graveyard that I was allowed to go into because we were good friends with the base commandeering officer. He had a purple sports car that he called the purple people eater. I can't think of his name at the moment, but I can picture him in my mind.
The base commander Col. Eslick @ AFA had a 40 acre spread in Black Forest. We spent a lot of time out there because my sister stabled her horse there and his youngest son was about my sisters age. My parents were good friends with them as well.
