Having worked with people with conditions like his, it is as if he knows he is supposed to get down the stairs because the part of his hindbrain that is still rubbing together the only two brain cells still existing there say “Stairs. You are at the top. Go down.”
Then halfway down, he loses track. The frontal lobes say “Where are we?” and the other part of the brain says “What? Oh. Stairs. Go down.”
People around that man ought to be ashamed of themselves.
The word "ought" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.
If anyone thinks that anybody who is walking the halls of ultimate political power in Washington is even capable of feeling "shame" -- about anything -- they have no idea how our political/governmental system actually works. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.
