I don’t believe the rifle was suppressed.
A supressor has no effect on the supersonic crack of the bullet.
Odd mistake for this gentleman to make.

They setup all this gear, pointed directly at the shooter, at every event? Call me sceptical.

Probably a 338 Lapua. That is the preferred military sniper round currently.

Who are those guys, what agency? Their vest says “police”.

The Secret Service was told shortly before where the guy on the roof was by concerned people who spotted a person likely to be a shooter on a roof.

Initially a lot of people said it sounded like a .22, however, depending on audio quality it could also have been .223. It did not sound suppressed to me. If you have ever been to a military outdoor range, .223 is not that loud until you are in the butts pulling targets. The loud cracking sound occurs when the round passes you vice hearing it in the outdoors, 200 yards away. So it could be either .22 or .223. I saw one report today where the “expert” claimed it was .223 but had to admit he was not positive.
Even if it were .22, the range of 150 yards falls in the middle of its effective range. In the right hands modern .22 ammo is quite effective at 150 yards. I still suspect .223 because a single shot killed a woman whom the shooter was not aiming at. I am curious, at 130-150 yards would a .22 round still have the ability to penetrate bone, I would like to see ballistic tests on that. .223 would absolutely kill at 200 meters even to 300 meters which is the range we trained at when I was a Marine.

Either tactical Secret Service or DHS Force Protective Services, would be my guess. Every Federal law enforcement agencies have snipers.
I was at a speech overseas by the first President Bush. He spoke on the flight line. I was approached by a SS agent because my flight line access badge was not in English. They were issued by the host country. I did however carry my DOD ID in a clear case around my next. I needed that if stopped by coalition guards. The SS agent faced a hanger 200-300 yards away and held my card up for someone to read. There were five of us, he did that with each person. End of the speech, Bush leaves, snipers came out of drain culverts, the roof tops of every hanger near the site. The guys in the culvert had to be sick after, those culverts had water mixed with Turco, hydraulic fluid, jet fuels and oil. Point is everything was covered. The agent came over and talked to us after, as he did the sniper came over, it would have cost me a years wages for the scope on what appeared to be an M40. I guess that was before the SS became a DEI shitte show.

Unknown at present; Bongino pointing out this a.m. on Fox interview that SS sometimes uses their own personnel and sometimes local assets.

I have a match-grade .22 heavy barrel rifle. There is no sound whatsoever. The Army used this particular rifle to train snipers during and after WWII. The heavy barrel means no recoil, and it attenuates the sound. It does not matter what .22 ammo I use in it. Once on target, after you stay on target.

Well you would certainly know as you stated you’re a Marine.
My question would be, keeping in mind the two calibers and the grains in each cartridge would there be an echo effect perhaps making one shot sound like two?

That I cannot say for certain but I can say the when I pulled butts in Camp Pendleton there was a low cinder block building where the Range SNCO and radio operator stayed and you could hear an echo off the cinder block when the rounds cracked over head. I am assuming you're asking because of claims there was another shooter. People should be concerned about the bullshitte rules of engagement that give the assassin the first shot. Having been to an event where PM John Majors spoke, I can assure you the UK snipers do not give you first bite of the apple. Had a rifle aimed at my head while I had my camera inspected! Once cleared, they lowered the rifle and called the sniper watching me. All I could think was for Gods sake don't sneeze.
For the record, I served two enlistments on active duty as a Marine, one enlistment in the Marine Reserves and spent the remainder of my career with the Navy.
