Why do I Hate Onions?
Onions are one of the most commonly used ingredients in cooking, but for some people, they are the bane of their existence. The question of why certain individuals hate onions is a complex one and can be attributed to a variety of reasons.
One of the main reasons why people hate onions is their strong and pungent taste and smell. For individuals with heightened senses, the aroma and flavor of onions can be overwhelming and unpleasant, leading to a strong aversion. Additionally, some people may have a genetic predisposition to dislike the taste of onions, as taste preferences can vary greatly from person to person.
The Texture is Unappealing
Another reason for the dislike of onions is their texture. When raw, onions can have a crunchy and slightly slimy texture that many find unappealing. This texture can be off-putting and make it difficult for some individuals to enjoy dishes that contain onions

My sister loved onions, then she got COVID. I gave her my ivermectin and she was mostly over it in 3 days and completely over it in 6 days. Now, she can’t stand onions.
I like most onions most ways. That said, the taquerias around here insist on grilling their steak or chicken with the onions and bell peppers (”fajita” style). All it does is turn the meat into a soggy mess. Grill the meat separately, and add raw onions after.
Genetics mostly. Not everything agrees with everybody. Either it tastes funny to them, or they have a bad reaction. My wife used to love onions, but then she developed an allergy, it’s worse if they’re raw but she still avoids cooked too.
Then of course there’s bad life experience. Maybe your mom cooked this terrible meal over and over in your childhood and anything from it is just torture. Or food poisoning. I haven’t eaten a Swedish meatball in 40 years because food poisoning. Just smelling them turns my gut. Which is sad cause I used to love them.
I can’t eat more than half a raw onion at a time.
Agreed.
Downside for me is onions can result in a rather unpleasant gas, depending on the preparation.
Not sure how you can cook without garlic and onions...and have it be fit to eat.
