Wind energy is on a tear and has beaten coal for two months straight: Wind has now generated 28% more electricity than coal

Wind is quietly blowing away coal, when it comes to supplying electricity in the US.

In April, wind power generated more electricity than coal for the second month in a row, according to the latest available data from the Energy Information Administration. Wind briefly surpassed coal once before in April last year, but this time it’s by a much larger margin and for two consecutive months.

Renewable energy production has been ticking up for years but only recently have fuels like wind and solar approached the ballpark of fossil fuels and nuclear power. Last year renewables made up 21% of electricity generation in the US.

However, tech companies’ insatiable need for fuel to power their AI projects and the data centers that support them could mean that utility companies will have to lean more heavily on natural gas, coal and nuclear than would have otherwise. That’s one reason investors like Warren Buffett are investing in energy companies. Tech companies themselves are getting into the energy business and are buying directly from power plants, generally wreaking havoc on the energy grid.

Natural gas remains the main fuel source for electricity generation in the US by a long shot.

They just finished building a brand new coal plant in China... By this time next week or the week thereafter, another will be brought on line, and another, and another and so on, and so forth.

Until they deal with the ENERGY STORAGE issue, the amount of power generated (whenever the wind feels like blowing) is next to meaningless.

Coal deal with storage by having HUGE HEAPS of coal on site.

Did I mention coal fired PowerPoint have a much much longer life and are cheaper to operate than wind power? They also have less of a carbon footprint and less hazardous waste?

Meanwhile, we read in other news: "The Biden administration is trying to crack down on the worst polluters, and that's the remaining coal-powered plants, which emit the most carbon dioxide. The new EPA rules require coal plants to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent by 2039, or close."

That would be an EPA ruling. Reckon it is unconsitutional.

So the feds say wind beats coal. Well, okay. Sure. And now a word from George Carlin:

When you physically stop/force the non use of coal then it’s not a leap to think that wind or something would create more energy. Fake economy.

Too bad that wind turbine farms cause climate change (downwind).

Oh well.

What the graphs show is not a huge increase in wind generated power but the decimation of th domestic coal power industry being replaced by natural gas. Our coal is now being shipped to China

I’m sorry, but that looks more like coal is going down than wind is going up. Is this reflecting all the coal plants govenors are shutting down for their green religion?

we live “out of town...a bit”. there is nothing but forest and small lakes for 100 miles in any direction. the ONLY wind here is the hot air from our local politicians and they don’t create anything but stife and deficits. progressive liberals aren’t just ignorant, they are purely STUPID.
