Amtrak is still facing service disruptions Friday in the Northeast after service between New Haven, Conn., and Philadelphia was suspended Thursday afternoon.
“As of 8:24 am ET, Due to a disabled commuter train in New York (NYP), All rail services will be delayed/modified between PHL & NYP,” Amtrak Northeast said in a post Friday morning on the social platform X. “Resumption of service is estimated at 12:00 pm. Delays of at least 60 mins are expected. Updates to come.”
Amtrak Northeast noted the cancellation and suspension of some trains in the New York region Friday morning due to the disabled commuter train.
Amtrak service was suspended between New Haven and Philadelphia due to a power outage Thursday. Amtrak Northeast said in a series of posts on X that an overhead power outage was reported between New York City and Newark and warned of “significant delays” while crews worked on the problem.

Because commuters bring tax revenue into the metro areas and, historically, have kept office space occupied.

My sister in law took her family from the east coast to Ohio via Amtrak in the summer. Thought it would provide the kids with a memorable experience. Well, it was. The air conditioning was out and there were delays.
Wine train, Southwest Chief, even the Trans-Canadian. Sometimes it’s the going rather than the getting there that matters.
Amtrak has never made a profit, but the Boston to DC northeast corridor does. The long routes that lose money like crazy (e.g New Orleans to LA) have political backing from old tourists to labor unions.
I heard that it’s a make-work project for a certain minority group.
We considered taking an Amtrak trip until we read reviews. The people running the show onboard are “that minority”, and they treated the white passengers terribly. Made them give up their good seats to “that minority” people who wanted them. Forced them off the train for no reason at desolate stops. No way.
I’ll grant you that, as long as you have a comfortable private room.
The railroad is beta testing for the final solution for white people.
If Amtrak is tasked with taking white people to death camps, the train will arrive three days late and at the wrong death camp.
Amtrak sucks however. I wish there was better alternative for cross-country rail travel.
I still like the Alaska Railroad, fwiw.
