Can FReepers recommend a free or inexpensive EMAIL service which is not instituting facial biometric logons (looking to get away from GMAIL). Is PROTON email reasonable re security?

I've gotten a few FReepmails asking for email services recommendations and I don't have the technical background to either warn against or recommend such services. One FReeper said Google is soon going to implement facial recognition or thumbprint ID etc. - is there anything out there still 'reasonably' private and not shifting to biometrics...yet? PS: Yes, I'm logged in. ;D

We’ve been on ‘netzero.com’ for years. I think it’s $29/yr or something. Of course you could use your freepmail. LOL!

Bookmarked. I have GMail as well and I want to get away from it. I don’t know how they could implement facial recognition or thumbprint identification from a home PC, but if they start with that kind of nonsense it’s bye bye Google.

I don’t really trust anything in this world, but Proton advertises itself as very private and secure. Email is encrypted. It’s based in Switzerland and at least pays lip-service to its opposition to surveillance.
It’s free, and I believe you sign up with just an existing email account.
If you have a “throw away” email account, you can use it to initiate your Proton account. Total anonymity is never possible, but you can start off as a pretty blank slate that way, and if your email traffic is automatically encrypted, then you’re not terribly visible.

Can I use my email client, Thunderbird or MS Outlook, with Protonmail or is it webmail? Even though I have a Gmail account, I access it via POP3 and download my emails unto my computer.

I just answered my own question. Protonmail does not offer POP3 support. That sucks.

I donโt see how any make a difference as you have no control over recipient if for no other reason. Besides has anyone here had a documented problem? I use Gmail because (1) I am not doing anything illegal and (2) no one blocks Gmail servers.
