Abstract -- Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum, and Cinnamon cassia), the eternal tree of tropical medicine, belongs to the Lauraceae family. Cinnamon is one of the most important spices used daily by people all over the world. Cinnamon primarily contains vital oils and other derivatives, such as cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, and cinnamate. In addition to being an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anticancer, lipid-lowering, and cardiovascular-disease-lowering compound, cinnamon has also been reported to have activities against neurological disorders, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. This review illustrates the pharmacological prospective of cinnamon and its use in daily life.

Great scientific paper worth reviewing, especially for people like me that are pre-diabetic or diabetic, but love foods to be tasty and not unhealthy, assisted by this flavonoid.

There are many other references, but one recently updated on the blog titled "healthline" that is more succinct and informative, but less "scientific" in language jargon, is the following link:

Cinnamon. Thanks for posting this article. It prompts me to go make some cinnamon tea.

Try it. It’s good and healthy.

I think I'll just eat a heaping tablespoon of cinnamon powder instead.

My favorite way to have cinnamon is to mix it with sugar and pour it on buttered bread, then stick it in the oven till it’s good and toasted.

Second best way is to find a Cinnabon shop somewhere...

If I had some handy, why I’d sprinkle it on the apple I’m eating:)

Interesting. I never liked cinnamon until my friend introduced me to Ceylon Cinnamon, which seems to be available everywhere. I like it on baked apples for dessert.

Or Vietnamese cinnamon. It’s much better than the normal supermarket spice rack stuff.

Ceylon Cinnamon, or true cinnamon, is effective for controlling high blood glucose.

Vietnamese cinnamon and Madagascar cinnamon are different cultivars and don't work as well, if at all.

Not for blood glucose control.

It makes my heart go crazy. Within minutes of taking a cinnamon capsule I get a very irregular heartbeat with numerous palpitations.

All the “taste” of cinnamon is in the aroma, nothing in the solids which are otherwise nutritious.

“Ceylon Cinnamon, or true cinnamon, is effective for controlling high blood glucose.”

On Amazon recently, I couldn’t find a brand of Ceylon that didn’t have a substantial number of reviewers saying it tasted terrible.

Great info, thanks for posting about a spice that is good for most of us, and a reminder, metmom, that some people have problems that can be unexpected.

I had been wondering why some people didn’t enjoy,or had problems with otherwise good food..

Thanks for the link!!

I see plenty with 4.5 star reviews from even thousands. Thank God. Are you shopping on a smartphone?
