If you own a home and don’t want to lose it, keep reading.
Homeowners who go on vacation or a business trip, even for just a week, are returning to find their house overtaken by trespassers who fraudulently claim a right to be there. It’s happening to tens of thousands of homeowners from New York City to Atlanta and Los Angeles.
When owners call the police, they’re told police can’t help. It’s a civil matter, and they have to file an eviction lawsuit, which can drag on for months or years because housing courts are backlogged.
Meanwhile, owners are out on the street while squatters are living free, destroying houses and even selling off owners’ belongings.
If you found a stranger sitting in your car and called the police, they would immediately ask to see the registration and decide who owns it, explains Georgetown law professor Jonathan Turley. They wouldn’t let the thief drive off. But the law is stacked against homeowners.
You can thank leftist lawmakers who have degraded property rights and tilted the law to favor criminals. The result is an epidemic of brazen squatting.
In New York state, a homeowner faced with a trespasser can expect eviction to take two years. Meanwhile, the owner is barred from turning off utilities, removing belongings, or doing anything else to get the invaders out. It’s crazy.
New York State Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz of Long Island introduced legislation saying a squatter is not a tenant and is not entitled to the same protections. Will it pass in Albany? Don’t hold your breath.
But some states are acting quickly against this crime wave.
The Florida Legislature passed a bill to empower police to immediately remove anyone who can’t produce a notarized lease. Georgia’s statehouse passed the Squatter Reform Act...

DeSantis signed the squatter law today. It goes into effect July 1.
It’s should be legal for homeowners to use deadly forces to stop the squawders from squawding.
They wouldn’t be in this house very long. I might end up in jail for murder but I know what would happen fast.
My house: squatters go in on their feet, but leave on their backs.
Yeh, We’re not going to call the cops if it happens to us. Our property is posted front yard and backyard with no trespassing signs. We’ll take them out at gunpoint and throw their chit at the street. If I have to go to jail for 24 hours its still better than months and thousands of dollars getting rid of them.
Total BS.
The only option illegals should have is being deported to whence they came.
Not really.
It is just the police do not want to do their job unless forced.
They are quick to move and can find that they CAN do something once the media gets involved.
Strange that.
But now apparently we have to pass laws that not only say that the police may act but have an obligation to act.
Good for those who are passing such laws.
It is a shame the police are making it necessary.

(It's the one with snot or cocaine pouring out of his nostrils)
I understand he is on the lam right now, after he skipped out of a hearing.
when’s he going to actually secure FL borders? He’s had years to do it but instead he allows illegals in and to roam his state and wander on to others when he isn’t shipping them around the country, allowing his lack of governing to effecting many other US Citizens. DeSantis is complicit as are all governors, none are really doing what they are allowed to do when US Govt isn’t doing it’s job to secure the country’s borders. congress and state leaders all aiding and enabling illegals.
A guy on TikTok suggests posting No Trespassing signs, and to keep a photo of the sign, with the date and your image as proof you posted the signs before any squatters have moved in.
Squatting is a civil matter but Trespassing is criminal, so now the police can take action.
There is no money in it for them.
What happens to Illegals when their freebies run out?
anonymously drop of a little baggie of fentany-lac3d cocaine powders and leave.
He’s disgusting. It’s like you’d need a Hazmat team in there after he leaves. And that poor child.
I know...I felt much the same sentiment. How repulsive to have that outlook on life where it is an achievement to steal and cause misery.
