“i also don’t understand the mentality of once a person is dead- they were saints”

I’ll make this short as possible.
Back in the early 2000s a guy got transferred into the building I was working in.
He had gotten fired the year before but retained council and got his job back complete with back pay and any overtime he would have been eligible for.
The termination resulted from harassing other employees and physical violence in thexwork place.
After a while he set his sights on me for some reason or another, why to this day I don’t know, I never met the man much less had been introduced to him.
I guess he was just plain mean.
Eventually I got promoted into another department so I got awafrom that situation but I ran into him one Saturday in the parking of my local Lowes and he tried to provoke me I to a physical altercation.
I found out later that he had a habit of doing that with other employees.
The facility was eventually able to “retire” him by making his job obsolete.
At the time my brother in law was security at the trauma hospital.
A few months after this crazy man retired my brother in law called me and ask me if I knew this guy because his persinfo showed he had worked where I did.
When I acknowledged I knew him and asked why, my BIN told me this guy was in ICU with a gunshot to the head.
Come to find out he had been harassing one of his neigand his wife, eventually the neighbor lost his temper, both men pulled out a gun and shot, killing each other.

The reason I told you all that is about the crazy guys obit.
The comments were glowing.
I really couldn’t believe it.
It took every bit of my self control to keep from blasting that crazy dude in his own obituary but I did it.
And I’m glad I did but man that was a trip.

True story.....every word.

Indeed. My former landlord was one of the 9/11 victims. He was in the tower that was struck by the second plane. And was trapped up there until the building came down.

He was a real lowlife, jerk of a landlord. Invaded our privacy by barging in our place without giving notice or even knocking on the door, withholding and opening our mail, etc.

My uncle and cousin once saw him try to peep through our front door window. Failing to see anything, he then pressed his ear against the door in order to try to hear what was being talked about inside (he and his wife lived in the apartment below us, a 2 family apartment house). He wouldn’t make repairs or improvements to our apartment. We called the housing authorities on him a few times.

But worst of all he froze us every fall and winter by giving us little to no heat (you can be damn sure he kept his apartment nice and toasty warm all day, every day at the same time).

Whenever the subject of 9/11 comes up somewhere on the internet, and if I happen to share my negative stories about my former landlord, there are times when I’m called a liar. Either I’m making up my experiences with him or he was never my landlord, or i never knew him, etc. Evidently, being a 9/11 victim conferred upon him a sainthood status and could have never done wrong in his entire life.

I don't know: There may good reasons against this practice (of refraining from saying anything adverse against the deceased), but there are at least two obvious reasons for this practice:

1. The deceased is unable to defend himself; it is inherently unfair to attack an opponent who is unable to defend himself.

2. Subconscious superstitious belief that the deceased could somehow "avenge" himself.

Regards,

There is a difference between once their dead their saints and making allegations against a dead person.
