1) The House is expected to vote this evening – sometime after 6:30 pm et – on a Democratic motion to table or kill the resolution by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

2) Many Republicans talk a lot about impeaching Mayorkas. But they are dubious about actually impeaching him. Especially with no hearings, depositions or markup of an impeachment resolution for Mayorkas. In addition, GOPers don’t like the fact that Greene offered the resolution.
3) The motion to table could be a fig leaf for some Republicans who don’t truly want to impeach Mayorkas.
However, if the motion to table fails, the House would automatically begin debate tonight on the articles of impeachment for Mayorkas.
4) It is unclear whether or not the House would then in fact hold a straight up or down vote on impeaching Mayorkas this evening or punt that until tomorrow.
The House has only impeached one cabinet member in history: Secretary of War William Belknap in 1876.
