Female Marines are called...wait for it....Marines !

.......

nuh uh

She-Marines

When the Marines began recruiting women reservists seven months ago, the Corps decided that its uniformed women would carry no telescoped name like WACs, WAVES or SPARS; they would be Marines. But "women Marines" is a lip-twisting phrase. "She-Marines" (TIME, June 21) was frowned on, too.

Make sure you are ready to run when you address a women Marine as a She Marine. Run faster if you call her a BAM

My mom was one of the first WACS in WWII.

The Women’s Army Corps (WAC) was the women’s branch of the United States Army. It was created as an auxiliary unit, the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) on 15 May 1942 and converted to an active duty status in the Army of the United States as the WAC on 1 July 1943. Its first director was Colonel Oveta Culp Hobby.[1][2] The WAC was disbanded in 1978, and all units were integrated with male units.
