Looks like he did a couple years in Detroit. I vaguely remember the name. RIP.

I saw Frank Howard playing with the Dodgers in 1963 and with the Senators in 1968. No mistaking who he was.

I remember many of his homers at DC Stadium. They would paint the seats white where the ball landed. Upper deck in center field was where most of them ended up. One week he hit ten homers. I think that’s a record.

I remember him hitting a mammoth home run in an All-star game over an analog clock on the scoreboard.
Awesome hitter who had his best years, like Willie Mccovey, in the pitcher dominated late 60’s.

Harmon Killebrew, in MLB around the same time, always looked bigger than he was, except when on the field with Frank Howard. Howard made Killebrew look like a small shortstop. Howard was noticeably bigger than even Boog Powell.
RIP

As a kid in those days, guys in sports like Howard were MEN! They all probably shaved, smoked and did real men stuff (thru my 10 year old eyes)
Today? The presence does not seem to be there as previous to the 70's or so.

My first sports 'hero'.
Although he was known for very long homeruns (the seats painted in white in the far left field upper deck), I once saw him smoke a line drive that the shortstop jumped up to try and catch, and it just kept going - right over the fence. Not a long homerun, but probably one that was hit harder than most.
All pre steroids and HGH days.

Saw Howard on a number of occasions at both RFK and Memorial Stadium back in the late 60’s...when he got a hold of one, the entire crowd gasped in awe.

He was bigger than Boog Powell. RIP Hondo!

Rest In Peace Hondo.
I saw the Senators many times and the ol’ RFK stadium was nearly empty every time. It was a weird time in Washington Baseball.

Wonderful, first class man. Signed a ball for me once with “68-70 home run king” inscribed beneath his name. RIP and God bless you, Frank.

I saw Frank Howard win a game with a walkoff homer in the early 60s when I was a kid. It was probably my very first big league game at Dodger stadium. I’ve been a Dodger fan ever since.
