The Supreme Court has ruled that delivery drivers for a pizza company should be treated as employees and not contractors.
The case related to delivery drivers working in 2010/2011 contracts with Karshan (Midlands) Ltd., trading as Domino’s Pizza.
The drivers argued they were employees for tax purposes, but Karshan said they were independent contractors under “contracts for service”.
Karshan had appealed a 2018 decision of a Tax Appeals Commissioner that the drivers should be treated as PAYE workers. …

It seems strange to see the words Domino’s and pizza side-by-side.
I use to love a dominoes as a kid and teenager. Not so much anymore. Not sure if they changed or I did.
If they have a shift and are expected to show up on time and in uniform, then they can’t be independent contractors.
I’ve never been a big fan, but the one I shared with my neighbor last week was terrible. Way too much crust.
They are trying to act like they are waiters who make $2.13 an hour and make up the difference in tips. When drivers are out on the road making deliveries they get tips. Domino’s is paying them less than minimum wage when they are on deliveries, and standard pay when they are in the restaurant working. The court said this was not legal. Ruby Tuesday restaurant was also sued for having waiters make tip outs to the host, bartenders bus people, and salad bar attendants after paying the wait staff $2.13 an hour. The court sided with the waiters in this also.
Their pizza may not be great, but when I was stuck in a hotel in a snow storm a few years ago, with no hotel food services open, everything else closed, the airport shut down, and the streets essentially impassable, Domino’s delivered a pizza to me. I was impressed.

All pizza orders will now have to be picked up at the restaurant. Because this may place a burden on our customers, we will also be reducing the price on ALL of our menu offerings by 25%. Well, I don’t really know the details, but my gut feeling is that this will be the end of Domino’s Pizza in Ireland.
I wonder if other pizza makers in Ireland have the same arrangements with their delivery drivers as Domino’s Pizza?
Question for those who have pizza (and other food) delivered: is the price jacked up from the front-counter price or do the drivers depend on tips. Seems like they’d have to get a pretty hefty tip to pay for the gas.
I delivered Pizzas as a second job for a while. Delivery drivers are part of the store staff. We folded boxes, washed pans, helped keep the store clean. Dominos calling its drivers “contractors” is a lie and a tax dodge.
Drivers do not get the delivery fee, we got base pay, an allowance to cover gas/vehicle wear and tear, and tips, which varied greatly.
Here in Cali their pizza is much less expensive if you pick it up.
But I don’t do that, because their pizza sucks.
I am very confused. Are you saying you haven't been aware of Domino’s Pizza? Where do you live.

Locally, Domino’s delivery has their own vehicles painted in Domino’s colors, etc., so I assume (I know) Domino’s owns them or leases them, so I can see those delivery people being considered employees. But most places seem to have delivery people with their own vehicles, so I’m not sure it fits for those to be considered employees.
