A drone called the T-600 -the same name as the Terminator - successfully launched a torpedo from the sky.
BAE Systems demonstrated the feat during a NATO training exercise, which saw a human controller fly the quadcopter strapped with the torpedo from a dock and over the ocean, where it let the weapon drop.
The electric-powered, car-sized T-600 has a payload capacity of 441 pounds, tops speeds of 87 miles per hour and has a range of up to 50 miles.
The demonstration aimed to showcase the anti-submarine warfare capabilities of the T-600 and its potential for automated logistics, resupply, casualty and evacuation.

Note that the T-600 was a primitive Terminator. Arnold was a T-800. And in Terminator 2 he faced a liquid metal T-1000.

Looks like a great way for those surface battle groups to defend against submarines.

Or for submarines to attack surface ships from over the horizon distances.

A twenty-five cent bullet can disable or destroy a multi-million dollar soldier.

As long as we’re referencing movies.
At least it can only go 87 MPH, so we don’t have to worry about time travel. 😥

At 87 MPH might as well shout PULL when you launch the thing. Our tax dollars at work.

This is not new. We had DASH helicopters that carried torpedos on my destroyer, DD-752, the Alfred A Cunningham in the 1960’s.

Many but not all surface ships carry helicopters to assist with ASW (Anti Submarine Warfare).
This would give surface combatants that have no air component, or unserviceable air component, an airborne ASW assist.
Give the little goober some GPS coordinates for the drop and send it out. The torp goes active after launch, finds the bad guy and makes him a permanent part of the ocean floor.
