Baseball Hall of Famer and Orioles legend Brooks Robinson died Tuesday, the team announced.

He was 86 years old.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Brooks Robinson,” the team said in a statement on X. “An integral part of our Orioles Family since 1955, he will continue to leave a lasting impact on our club, our community, and the sport of baseball.”

Best Defensive 3rd Baseman. Schmidt is the best all around 3rd Baseman

Arguably the best ever at 3rd base, especially for his time. One of the main reasons the Orioles became my favorite team as a child. RIP.

Saw Brooks, Powell, the other Robinson along with Frank Howard and Ed Brinkman when the Senators came up the Parkway to play back in the day. You could stand outside the stadium after the game and get your glove signed without any consideration for resale value...remember having Carl Y. signing my glove, as well...I’m sure someone made a pretty penny off of that glove long after I ‘lost’ it while moving.

He was a vacuum cleaner at 3rd base.

Hell of a player. I remember what he did to my Reds in the 70 series.

Condolences to his family and friends. I don’t know much about him other than that he was a fantastic 3rd baseman, and a pretty good hitter...but in “real” life we are a lot more than just what we do (or did) to earn a living. I hope that his family and friends can find comfort in having known him.

I remember what he did to my Reds in the 70 series.

I remember that too. He robbed Johnny Bench several times and delivered at the plate in the clutch.

I have met and talked to over a dozen hall of famers, in addition to a handful of other MLB players. Brooks, with Tony Gwynn a close second, was the nicest of them all.

At age 86, half his body was already dead. Vaccine would not have saved him.

Did they at least try to kill him with the Vax first? You know to get the numbers up?
