My favorite was my Coonan in .357 mag. (not Sig)

At nearly 1900fps with hot loads, the over penetration made down range risks high and had to cell it.

At the range I would bet the after-range beer tab with whomever was with me that SOMEBODY would ask about it after the muzzle blast would really blow the paper target at 7 yards. It never failed to happen. Even had people bend over to pick up the brass trying to figure out that cannon that just went off, because the sound was impressive.

Dan Coonan designed the pistol on a bet, when someone told him that a .357 magnum could not be built on a 1911 platform. The rimmed cartridge was the obstacle and the mags were his biggest challenge, which he overcame by incorporating a pivoting follower. Still ended with 7 +1. The grips are large to accommodate the longer cartridge, but with large hands it felt fine and the longer slide action actually makes a unique and smooth feel.

...but, it had to go, like the other toys =o)

Canoeing can be dangerous. Stay safe on the water, because rust is not our friend.

Condolences on your losses.

Ammo slide....

Wow - 1900 fps on a 357 mag is really moving. Typical loads are, what, maybe 1400 with a 125 gr bullet, and maybe 1250 or so with 158 gr? Still packs a wallop compared to the 38 spl
.
I consider the 10mm kind of equal to the .357, or .41 mag, depending on load. The ammo available varies a LOT from something equivalent to the 40 cal (424 ft/lb muzzle energy) to some crazy Buffalo Bore brand at nearly 800 ft/lb muzzle energy. My Colt seemed to do very well with ammo up to around 600 ft/lb which would propel a 180 gr projectile at around 1200 fps.

Some of the 10 mm purists note that there’s a small unsupported part of the chamber in many 1911 designs that really make it less worthy of the extreme ammo out there so I stick with stuff in the mid 500 ft/lb range. It’s stout, but easily managed by the gun.

Or was back before that tipsy canoe episode. Glad I was wearing my floatation device. :)
