The Ukrainian Armed Forces are experiencing historic moments on the southern front lines of the war. After breaking the first Russian defensive lines in Zaporizhia, the Ukrainians are trying to reach deeper into the region with their special forces, western main battle tanks, artillery and infantry units. Today we are witnessing the Ukrainians breaking through the strategic Russian main defense line in the Orikhiv region, between Robotyne and Verbove, and moving towards Tokmak. Kiev is apparently expanding the scope of its offensive plans considerably. Russia is unable to respond to this situation at the moment. Of course, this is due to the Russian military’s lack of military reserves. That’s why the Ukrainians are achieving mind-blowing successes this week.
Here is a stunning analysis of today’s latest situation from Zaporizhia, the center of hot clashes, and an overview of the current state of the war. First of all, the Ukrainian Armed Forces broke through the Russian defenses over the past few days and have been doing their best to liberate Robotyne all week. This signaled that Russia would lose important areas in Zaporizhia. For the Ukrainians, Robotyne was the key to penetrating the Russian second line of defense. The advance of Ukrainian troops to the south of Rabotyne signaled the beginning of the operation to liberate Tokmak from the Russians and the direct encirclement of this settlement. Therefore, the Ukrainians are advancing from 3 different directions in order to encircle the town of Tokmak in a pocket.
The details of these directions create incredible opportunities for the Ukrainians. Taking advantage of the opportunities to attack Tokmak, the Ukrainian army is gathering its forces near Robotyne and clearing the area of mines laid by the Russians. In the Verbove Orikhiv and Tokmak triangle, Verbove is the apex of the triangle and the most strategic attack area. Accordingly, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are approaching Tokmak from the east and Orikhiv from the north-west. Another direction of advance is the road from Rabotyne to Novoprokopivka. This is a direct vertical advance eastward from Verbove. Behind this road is the second line of defense of the Russian forces. This T-480 road starts from Orikhiv and goes from Tokmak to Melitopol. From there the road connects with the E-105 highway to Crimea via the Chongar bridge. For this reason, the areas of Verbove, Orikhiv, Tokmak, Rabotyne and Novoprokopivka in the triangle we mentioned are of critical importance to cut the Russian land corridor.
Ukrainian forces have already conquered this strategic triangle from the inside and took Verbove and Robotyne. The distance between Rabotyne and Novoprokopivka is less than 2 kilometers. If the Ukrainian Armed Forces succeed, the entire front line west of Rabotyne will be attacked, namely the Russian garrisons in Nesterianka and Kopani. These units will be partially surrounded and the Russian supply links in these areas will be cut. There is also 11 kilometers of empty space behind these villages. So for the Ukrainians, this empty space can be used as a corridor to organize offensive operations.
As for the Ukrainian offensive between Novoprokopivka and Verbove, it is moving towards the approaching railway from the east and the highway from the southeast. Such actions will force the Russians to abandon the surrounding settlements. Also, further movement to the south of the city will force the Russians to leave Tokmak, Enerhodar and make it possible to cut the entire Zaporizhzhia-Kherson bridge. Soon the Ukrainian Armed Forces will take Verbove and expand the corridor, and then they will drive the Russian troops out of Novoprokopivka, after which the Ukrainian advance will accelerate further.
Already in the last 24 hours, there is confirmed information about the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Zaporizhzhia region near the village of Novoprokopivka. Every kilometer Ukrainian forces advance brings their artillery one step closer to hitting hitherto unreachable Russian targets, including roads and train lines passing through the regional center city of Tokmak. Further beyond lies the M14 highway, which follows the country’s southeast coast and is relied upon by Russia to transport important supplies. The M14 highway is about 50 miles south of Robotyne and Verbove. Even without getting that close to the target, each kilometer of progress allows Ukraine’s longer-range ground-launched rockets to hit more Russian assets. Ukraine’s Western-made HIMARS and M270 mobile launchers fire projectiles with a range of 80 kilometers.

Dear Ukrainians!
Today was a difficult day. As of now, over 30 people have been wounded in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, after the attack by Russian terrorists. 16 people have been killed. My condolences to all who lost their loved ones! All services were working at the scene, clearing the rubble and rescuing people.
I am grateful to everyone in the world who condemned this latest manifestation of Russian evil and supports Ukraine, our people. And it is very important that the response to Russian terror was even greater consolidation of the world. Every manifestation of such consolidation really helps save lives.
Today, in Ukraine, in Kyiv, there are several important international events. Visits of partners. Denmark – Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The United States – Secretary of State Blinken. The First Ladies and Gentlemen of the partner states who participated in this year’s Summit – and this is the third Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen – dedicated to the extremely important and sensitive topic of how we are going through this war, how our hearts and souls are experiencing the war. Therefore, how to overcome the pain of war. Mental health, the mental resilience of people, it is something that requires work just as much as any other manifestation of our resilience.
Today, I also addressed the leaders of the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, a large region that is one of the sources of European strength. The Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Adriatic Sea – all the countries in our part of Europe. The Summit took place in Romania. I called on all our partners, our neighbors to continue to preserve unity in Europe.
On this day, we have new defense agreements. New political and humanitarian agreements. We are also preparing new international communications to make this week more active from the perspective of our foreign policy work. So that our soldiers, all our people feel more strengthened.

During the last 24 hours, the Defense Forces of Ukraine have been conducting an offensive operation on the Melitopol front, killing the Russian soldiers and liberating occupied territories step by step. They are also pushing the Russian forces south of Bakhmut.

DETAILS:
During the day, the Russians launched 10 missile attacks, 54 airstrikes and 31 attacks from multiple-launch rocket systems on the positions of the Ukrainian forces and settlements.
The operational situation in the south and east of Ukraine remains complicated. 26 combat encounters took place.
On the VOLYN and POLISSIA fronts, there have been no significant changes to the operational situation.
On the SIVERSHCHYNA and SLOBOZHANSHCHYNA fronts, the Russians launched an airstrike near the settlement of Hraniv, Kharkiv Oblast. Over 25 settlements were attacked by mortars and artillery.

The Russians launched airstrikes near the settlements of Bilohorivka in Luhansk Oblast and Vesele in Donetsk Oblast. Over 10 settlements were subject to artillery and mortar attacks.
On the BAKHMUT front, the Defense Forces repelled Russian attacks near the settlement of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Donetsk Oblast. The Russians launched airstrikes near the settlements of Khromove and Pivnichne in Donetsk Oblast. Over 15 settlements, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bila Hora, Bohdanivka and Klishchiivka in Donetsk Oblast, were under artillery and mortar attacks. In their turn, the Defence Forces had partial success as a result of storming actions to the south from the city of Bakhmut, pushing the Russians out of their positions and gaining a foothold in the positions they achieved.
On the AVDIIVKA front, the Defense Forces repelled Russian attacks near the settlement of Avdiivka. The Russians launched an airstrike near the settlement of Avdiivka. Over 15 settlements were attacked by artillery and mortars.
On the MARINKA front, the Defense Forces continue to deter the Russian offensive near the settlement of Mariinka in Donetsk Oblast. The Russians launched an airstrike near the settlement of Krasnohorivka. The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Paraskoviivka and Yelyzavetivka in Donetsk Oblast were subject to artillery and mortar attacks.
On the SHAKHTARSK front, the Russians launched an airstrike near the settlement of Urozhaine. Over 10 settlements were under artillery and mortar attacks by the Russians.
On the ZAPORIZHZHIA front, the Russians launched airstrikes near the settlements of Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Over 10 settlements were attacked by artillery and mortars.
On the KHERSON front, the Russians launched an airstrike near the settlement of Olhivka. The city of Kherson and the settlement of Antonivka in Kherson Oblast were attacked by artillery and mortars.
During the day, the aircraft of the Defense Forces launched 12 attacks on the areas of concentration of manpower, weapons and military equipment and on the positions of anti-aircraft systems of the Russians.
Ukrainian Rocket Forces and Artillery units struck one ammunition storage, three artillery systems, two command posts, one anti-aircraft system and two areas of concentration of manpower, weapons and military equipment of the Russians.

Kostiantynivka: A heinous and barbaric attack

The European Union responded to the Russian shelling of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast, which killed 17 people and injured 32 more.

“Russia continues terrorising Ukraine’s civilian population. Today’s heinous and barbaric missile attack on a market area in Kostyantynivka in Donetsk region killed at least 16 people, including a child and injured dozens others,” Stano said.
He noted that the attack on Kostiantynivka followed an escalation in recent months of attacks by drones and missiles throughout Ukraine.
“It comes in addition to Russia’s daily indiscriminate shelling and bombing near the frontlines causing hundreds of civilian victims. The EU strongly condemns these attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure and calls on Russia to immediately stop its inhumane and illegal aggression.”
Stano also recalled the systematic Russian attacks on the south of Ukraine, which demonstrate how Russia is “exacerbating the global food security crisis with its illegal war of aggression against Ukraine”, and also demonstrates the Russian tactics of increasing its economic profits at the expense of Ukraine, deliberately endangering millions of the most vulnerable people around the world.
“Intentional attacks against civilians are war crimes. All commanders, perpetrators and accomplices of these atrocities will be held to account,” he added.

On the afternoon of 6 September, Russian troops targeted the central market in the city of Kostiantynivka. Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a video of the strike and noted that the invaders attacked the site with artillery.

THIS SURRENDER, one of the most shocking news items on today’s agenda, was one of the CLEAREST EXAMPLES of RUSSIA’S DESPERATION IN ZAPORIZHIA.
So how will these critical offensive operations by the Ukrainians and the withdrawal of Russian troops and their surrender to Kiev affect the situation on the fronts? Will Russia give up completely and give up all of southern Ukraine, including Zaporizhia? Or will the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with their own efforts and Western military support, sweep the Russians off the southern fronts?
Critical assessments came from Ukrainian officials on this issue. Ukrainian military officials have been particularly blunt about the possibility of a new Ukrainian offensive in the western part of the Zaporizhzhia region, noting that there may be a number of Russian defensive positions prepared just ahead and south of the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ advance. Tarnavsky noted that Ukrainian fighters decisively broke through the Russian invaders first. Tarnavsky expects faster successes as Ukrainian forces will crush the Russians’ weaker second line of defense. In fact, just as Tarnavsky reported, in recent days Ukrainian defense forces have advanced towards another set of Russian defense positions prepared in certain areas near Robotyne in the Western Zaporizhia region.
However, many Russian sources claim that these positions are the first, rather than the second, layer of defense in the Russian Army’s multi-echelon defense of the south. We know that Ukrainian officials and Russian war correspondents use different terminology to describe the same positions. In this regard, Tarnavsky noted that Russian troops spent 60 percent of their time and resources on building a series of defensive positions that Ukrainian forces overran, and only 20 percent on each of the next two layers of defense further south.
ISW notes that this broken series of Russian defensive positions is an interlocking system of invader trenches and bunkers protected by anti-tank ditches and dense minefields. And Tarnavsky’s report confirms analysts’ earlier observation that Russian forces may not have made similar complex preparations throughout the war.
