For the Presidency, it has been stated it is part of the President's immunity from the Constitution, by the courts.

Not exactly clear about Texas law, but in general, the doctrine is: if the person was elected by the people, knowing the events before the election, the people have spoken and their decision prevails.

These charges against Paxton have been ongoing as part of the general lawfare against conservatives, for several years.

Remember how DeLay, House whip was driven from the House of representatives with bogus charges? That was the same sort of tactic, in Texas. When the dust settled, all the charges were thrown out, but Tom DeLay was no longer in the House, and the Leftist Lawfare had neutered another effective opponent.
