The final weekend of Burning Man in Nevada's Black Rock Desert appears to be a washout with torrential rains turning the area into a massive mud bath.
The weather became so bad on Friday night that all traffic into and out of the site was halted while all bike and buggy riding around the massive campsite was banned.
Organizers were forced to ban people from leaving the site as the slippery and muddy conditions created treacherous driving conditions.
'Do not drive your vehicle. Do not ride your bike, do not push your bike around. Remain where you are. Secure structures and belongings in your camp,' urged one message to Twitter.
'All scheduled burns for tonight (Friday 9/1) are postponed until further notice. Hunker down, don't drive, don't bike, be safe! Shelter in place!' added another.
The gate remains closed and no one is allowed to enter or leave via the road or airport, Burning Man posted online.

This is the first time it’s rained for this event?
Burn!
Thank God. What a debauchery.
It’s the first time some of them have showered too.
Also:
“the road closures mean cleaning and servicing of the thousands of portable toilets used by attendees has been suspended.”

I’m sure these demands went over real well with Burning Man attendees.
Oof.
Gosh, maybe it’s a sign.
I’ve not been to burning man but I have been out on the playa during a squall. They are stuck there for the duration as you cannot drive when it’s muddy - you will get stuck down to the axles. 73,000, stuck in the mud.
Bummer man.
record rains from a recent hurricane added two feet to lake meade. This rain may add another foot. All good. Allgood.
I’ve been to Blackrock during a LDRS Rocket event back 20 years ago.
Blackrock would NOT be the place to be in the rain.

I like that!

God works in mysterious ways.
I have friends that go to Burning Man, over the years I have had a dozen or so invites, from tents to a cushy Airstreams, and each time I declined. People explain it all to me, I understand it, but don’t get it.
Last year there was all sorts of complaining that there was no rain.
This year there are all sorts of complaining that there is rain.
"Alright. We just want the stuff you worked for, OK??????"
Grow up. snowflakes. CLIMATES CHANGE. My eldest brother is a Lefty Unitarian tenured retired college professor, and FORTY YEARS AGO I remember him opining that it was silly for Californians, living environmental splendor and getting rich off the bounty of the land to assume that CA would ALWAYS be the same verdant oasis it was because recorded history is a TINY chunk of real history, and CLIMATES CHANGE. (And when I was a kid 60-ish years ago, environmentalists were wetting themselves because their data said by the year 2000 we would be FREEZING IN ANOTHER ICE AGE!!!!)
