Impossible for the UK soldier to verify the target. Seems it was some form of propaganda for both UK and for hitler. At one point when raving about— hitler raved how it was important to get Britain together with them... to fight the Russian Bolsheviks.
But for many years Goebbels vacillated from his pledge to Bolshevism to National Socialism (both Leftist) until he heard the “right words” from hitler. What a screwed up post WWI Germany was, and boy did France pay for what Wilson allowed at Versailles. To think that Vichy developed, and Marshal Petain was to be executed for collaboration only to be saved by DeGaulle (for the olde Guard to survive the many Commies in France who were most of the Resistance).
