If you’re going to drink, you need to anticipate what you might do. I work at the police station. When they get off work, many go to the lounge to decompress. On most shifts, I usually have a couple come down and use one of the blow kits to get a reading of how intoxicated they, so they can see if they can drive.

The alleged drunk driver accused of mowing down new bride Samantha Hutchinson on her wedding night complained how her “whole life is going to be over” as she sat in a South Carolina jail two days after the devastating fatal crash, according to a local report. Jamie Lee Komoroski at times questioned why “this happened to me” — while saying she felt like a terrible person at other moments — during conversations with her parents and friends, according to jailhouse recordings obtained by the Post and Courier. When I was young and stupid, I drove completely wasted on several occasions. Never once did I put a scratch on the car.

Now that I’m old and wise, I NEVER, EVER, get behind the wheel once I pop the top on the first one, whether that’s my truck or my golf cart..

I don’t know the details of the incident but...I can’t figure out how an automobile and a golf cart were sharing the same road, avenue, pathway or whatever.

Not excusing the girl, but it’s hard to imagine how pitch black the roads are out there. Assuming the golf cart was going 20 mph, there would be virtually no response time for a perfectly sober driver in a car going 40. It is not a good idea to drive a golf cart at night.

My second niece had an encounter with a drunk driver right after she got her license at 16. Her only choices: Crash into the drunk woman going the wrong way head on or hit a brick wall in front of a subdivison. She chose the wall but was not badly hurt. Only knocked unconscious briefly. The woman was caught and arrested. God and the angels were watching as we can read in Psalm 139.

I’m not defending the drunk woman in any way, however, why should it be legal to drive golf-cart type vehicles on any road traveled by full-sized ICE of EV autos?

IOW, golf carts shouldn’t be street legal. And wherever the carts can operate should be off-limits to regular traffic. If the drunk woman was driving where autos are probited, that just adds another strike against her.

The death penalty for DUI manslaughter could give us an ounce of prevention. I would be fine with her being sent to the gallows or firing squad for this. That would be true justice.

I can’t stand when people refer to these events as ‘tragedies’. This idiot made several deliberate decisions, which almost guaranteed this or similar results. It wasn’t something bad that just happened...it was completely predictable AND preventable.

BTW....the idea that this piece of trash is even considered for release on bail is a complete travesty. There is NO question she is completely at fault, and will be found guilty of several felony counts that will land her in prison for many years. Time served can be subtracted from her subsequent sentence.
