Yes. The Pinkerton Agency did quality detective work. But they also sent in hired thugs as strike-breakers. In that latter capacity they were hated by the steel mill workers.
Some folks here are against unions. Far enough. But are they perhaps unaware of what people such as Henry Frick and Andrew Carnegie were like.
My grandfather worked in one of Henry Frick’s coal mines. My grandfather was caught in mine collapse, and broke his back. Frick’s company fired him the next day. Oh, and the great philanthropist Andrew Carnegie? He put his workers on 12-hour, 7-days a week shifts. That meant no days off, ever.
What about the biblical commandment to have a day of rest? Carnegie payed the local churches not to mention that.
Frick and Carnegie, those are the guys who hired the Pinkertons.
Yeah, that’s why I qualified my statement with “some parts”.
