Johannesburg, South Africa was treated to a rare dusting of snow this week – the city’s first in more than 10 years.
The unexpected winter wonderland was part of a patch of snow that covered various provinces through the weekend into Monday, South Africa’s Times newspaper reported.
Photos from around the city show delighted residents gallivanting among the snowflakes, which last coated the area in August 2012.
“Eleven years down the line, it’s exciting that we have snow,” local Jennifer Banda said.
Others on social media referred to the weather as “pure magic,” The Guardian reported.

“...And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time...”
Global warming !!!1!1
Well it happens in WINTER
“The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life”
Sometimes it’s warm. Sometimes it’s cold. But it’s always a crisis.
Here in central FL, the last time it snowed was 1979; "native" people old enough to remember still talk about it.
“...And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time...”
If South Africa is getting snow in JULY, just think what will happen during the winter there. Something really bad is going on...
(I’m just trying to sound as stupid as the Ukraine War supporters claim we are, so ignore this post)
How would kids in SA know to make a snow angel? It must be an inherited trait like how monarch butterflies migrate to their winter grounds.
Climate change can do strange things.
If not corrected , our sun could expand into a red giant and die. But, democrats will spend hundreds of trillions of dollars to prevent such an expansion and therefore prevent the ultimate global warming. A supernova would not be pleasant, but hopefully the democrats would be first to go.
This is one of the most surprising articles I’ve ever read.
But....but....it’s white! That’s racist!!!
My wife who lived in Metairie La. had never seen snow before coming up to Va. The first thing she did was make snow angels & was shocked that I wasn't making them. I said I'll give you about two months to enjoy snow. It lasted about 2 weeks. Because in Va. the temps rise during the day just enough to promote some melting which quickly freezes creating an icy coating. When she got out of the car and took a step forward the ice made her feet fly out from under her resulting in her landing harshly on her keister. A stream of expletives soon followed immediately afterwards.🙂
Her first experience behind the wheel of a car, sent her doing circles going forward before coming to a stop. She never got behind the wheel again after that. If there was snow or a threat of snow, I had to drive her to work. If it snowed while she was at work. I had to pick her up. Which I was more than happy to do, as she had escaped all negative consequences of what potentially could have transpired with her out-of-control experience.
Lol…great stories. I’d wager she never picked up the snow shovel either.
So it does snow in hell.
Glad you enjoyed my silly stories. 🙂
I just re-read the Ray Bradbury short story “The Kilimanjaro Device”. I read it as a kid but did not understand at that time that the story was in reference to Ernest Hemingway.
