A New Jersey postal worker was ambushed and robbed by two masked muggers, who took his skeleton key, on just his second day on the job, authorities said.
On May 13, the postal worker was dropping off letters and packages along his route in Millburn before the two suspects snuck up on him and stole his postal keys, NorthJersey.com reported.
Surveillance video shows the postal worker running from the duo across a front lawn before one of the muggers forcibly pushes him to the ground. The worker then slides across a walkway and lands on the driveway, according to the publication.
The mailman is able to get up and is shouting at his phone for Siri to call 911 before the muggers grab him and snatch his keys and run off, the footage shows.
Police said the suspects were picked up by a waiting getaway car, which is believed to be a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan.
The mail carrier told officials the pair stole his “arrow key,” which is a master key used by USPS employees to open apartment building mailboxes.
“Arrow keys are basically universal keys that open every mail receptacle in a given zip code,” Frank Albergo, the president of the Postal Police Officers Association, told Inside Edition. “They are like the keys to the city. You have access to incredible amounts of mail.”
The resident whose surveillance camera captured the attack talked to NorthJersey.com and said he believes the muggers hid between a dumpster and a storage unit next door and then jumped out at the victim.
“They were watching [him]. They knew exactly what he was doing,” the homeowner, Lenny Weiland, told WNBC. “As a matter of fact, the postal worker who was attacked, it was his second day on the job.”
“The only part you could see was their hands,” Weiland said about the thieves. “They’re pretty concealed.”
An investigation by the Millburn police and the US Postal Inspection Service is ongoing, officials said.
WNBC reported that authorities identified one of the two suspects in the case. According to police, 24-year-old Zachary Lyttle of New City, New York, faces 2nd-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery charges and a warrant was issued.
You know, the White House should think about having some of these "surveillance cameras" installed. They seem to come in pretty handy when trying to identify law-breakers.
Ooh, Federal crime.
That’s always a good way to go. For Federal jurisdiction.
Notice how the “Equity Camera Filter” lightened and blurred the pictures of the thugs?
“Thugs”?? That’s mighty judgmental of the author.
Yeah. Doing crimes on the Feds, even a low-level one, is like messing with one of the various branches of China’s Public Security or Russia’s FSB
They will put in extra effort to find you, and their prisons will be very secure and far away.
Trying to steal mail out ballots?
OBAMA’S SONS in action again.
Met a guy who drives a mail 📬 truck
Semi
Somebody shot at his truck 🚛
They could have killed him
The perp hasn’t been caught yet
Yet, at the WH with the best technology and surveillance equipment on the planet, and presumably one of the most secure places on the planet, we can't tell who dropped coke there??
Is Millburn a blue city? You couldn’t pay me enough to live in a blue State, let alone a blue city.
I believe the largest US Mail crime in history is the 2020 stolen election. Not that any democRAT or Drive-By Media are going to admit it.
Milburn - a blue city ?
Yes Essex County Nj is wall to wall rats
Milburn is actually an upscale area so usually dont expect Amish thugs
If someone is approaching you, in July, wearing a hoodie, get you pocket warmer ready for action, or run like hell....
Such great quality footage!
Hoodies on a hot May Day are a dead giveaway.
