Lake Tahoe was transformed into a “landfill” Tuesday after Fourth of July partygoers left behind a record-breaking 4 tons of trash surrounding the massive freshwater basin.
Over 8,559 pounds of cigarette butts, plastic food wrappers, beach toys, beer boxes — and even barbecues — were collected Wednesday by environmental cleanup volunteers during the 10th annual July 5th “Keep Tahoe Red, White & Blue” Beach Cleanup.
It took 402 good Samaritans three hours to rake up the colossal piles of trash that the Keep Tahoe Blue collective said was “tragically an all-time high.”
Lake Tahoe needs your help.
This is the scene from Zephyr Cove this morning. It’s quite a hangover

The “trash” identifies as landscaping, so it’s OK.
Liberals believe everyone works for them and they are each the king.
“and even barbecues”
I guess that’s a thing.
Where I am a local organization asks for volunteers to help cl up the beach on the 5th......this year on the local news I saw a guy picking up a small grill that still had food on it. SMH
City people just do not care or appreciate it. They come trash it and run.
Sounds like Giants Stadum after a Jets game...
After reading the articles and comments, I guess I won’t ask “why don’t people clean-up after themselves?”
ZERO respect. Then again, most probably don’t live in the area so NOT their problem. Kinda weird that the Tahoe folks that do the fireworks don’t seem to have a problem doing them over the water though. Lucky the lake is the clearest it’s been in decades. IIRC the average clarity goes down to about 71 feet.
If trash was all they left behind, that would be great, but now they're spraying graffiti all over rocks and trees.

Worse at other parks:
Because they are nothing but slobs. Try imagining what the inside of their homes look like.
Guaranteed many were lefties. All talk, no action. All losers.
Not that much trash. It could have been over 4 tons. THAT would be a lot!
They don’t mind the millions of dollars these events bring to the area. Have to take the good and the bad with these events.
Yes, why do people think it is okay to litter?! This is the real environmental issue. And likely liberal and progressives. Take a look, for example, the aftermath of Trump events on the National Mall, as one good example. No trash.
Tahoe used to be pretty cool. Then the hipsters moved in, yuppies and guppies with their therapy dogs and yoga mats.
It is on holidays, and weekends during the summer, that you get to see urban-dwellers at their offensive best. Many of them are virtually, un-civilized slobs. They are the type that would throw a lit cigarette-butt out of a car window on a rural roadway on a hot summer day. They are the reason you fled the Bay Area or Al A for “literally” greener pastures. Don’t get me wrong, while the urbanites lack couth, the residents up in Tahoe and other forested areas, believe the terrain belongs exclusively to them. And, they would rather see you mauled and eaten by a bear rather than harm one of those often “invasive” predators, in preservation of your life. I try to avoid both species!
The same could be said for most of the Grateful Dead shows.
Correct.
Their cars, too, are usually a good indicator of how bad their “homes” are.
It’s a different crowd that comes to these places anymore. It’s weird. Something is going on.
No one is working and some pretty low class individuals are more affluent than their character would seem to allow.
