Richmond resident Joseph Ianelli’s neighbors might be do a double-take the next time they peer into the woods surrounding the longtime Staten Islander’s home.
Ianelli, 71, a former marketing and advertising designer, has crafted a realistic wooden silhouette of the legendary Bigfoot — the large, hairy human-like mythical creature (also known as Sasquatch) supposedly said to inhabit forests throughout the country.
“I was sitting on my porch that overlooks my backyard and the wooded area that is attached to my backyard, when suddenly, I saw a beast about 8-feet high with dark hair covering his entire body,” Ianelli told the Advance/SILive.com.
“I saw it in my imagination; what a great idea to have a Bigfoot shadow figure in my own backyard. So, I created the beast.”
Ianelli is no stranger to elaborate displays, having worked on ad campaigns for many local Staten Island businesses (some of which are no longer in operation) over the years, including: Wexler’s Bedding and Furniture, Somach’s Home Improvements, Richmond Appliance, Richmond Chandelier, Farrell Lumber, Forest Seasonal Pools, and more.
Now retired alongside his wife Mary, Ianelli also creates digital art and traditional paintings. A fan of contemporary conspiracy theories, he’s also hard at work on a book that includes original images of UFOs hovering above and touching down into modern settings.
Asked if he’s trying to scare his fellow residents, Ianelli was quick to point out that people who’ve seen the silhouette really love it and that he just wants everyone to know that he’s simply doing artwork.
“It’s not for Halloween,” Ianelli said. “It’s sitting right in its own environment where it can’t be seen from the street.”
However, one neighbor joked: “If I saw that in the woods, I’d probably have a heart attack.”

It woulf fool me.
Is Dackyard a city?
Somehow I garbled it - it’s supposed to be backyard.
Lead magnet
Just put up a large poster of DA Alvin Bragg.
Pretty cool.
Hope no one tries to shoot it
Actually if these things are indeed real (and color me highly skeptical) the only way to prove existence would be to kill one.......
No way. That’s as legit as Ukraine being a victim and fighting back against naked aggression. lol.
I’m already on it. Nordegg has one for sure. Years of sightings and sounds. Northern BC as well, the town of Fraser. All over really. Too many people seeing too many things, so I figure I’ll blast one if I see it. I don’t want fame or fortune though. It’s just in the name of science heh.
If you ever get your shot I just hope it’s not some idiot in a costume.
Well, on the bright side, the world will be down one more idjit? heh.
Daniel Boone already did that:

Looks like he’s peeing...
I wish no ill will on anyone......I am however a firm believer that 99.5% of the time we find ourselves in the situation we do because of our own doing.....so if some dummy gets shot because they are running around in the woods playing Bigfoot well, that’s on them.
Interesting story. Thanks for sharing.
I never knew the origins of Yahoo until today.
I dunno- usually with photoshop there are tell-tale signs. I see no tell tale signs in that authentic photo lol
Which reminds me... as soon as his Heat Wave breaks I have to plant some Bermuda yl grass in my dackyard.
I recall when moonlit night about 15 years ago I was out on my front porch and over by the neighbor’s house the arborvitae tree growing next to the garage looked like one of those large hairy Cryptids.
It was kind of spooky for a second.
