Keep calm and keep drinking Diet Coke experts have urged Brits in the wake of a bombshell leak linking a commonly used sweetener to cancer.
Aspartame, a sugar alternative using in diet drinks, juices and lighter versions of chewing gum, yogurt and jellies, is set to be listed as 'possibly carcinogenic to humans' by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to insiders.
The news prompted some people on social media to swear to 'never' touch Diet Coke, or other products containing aspartame, ever again.
But experts today told MailOnline that the WHO leak was causing unnecessary panic and urged people not to overreact.
And official dietary advice shows the average adult Brit would need to drink a whopping 15 cans of Diet Coke a day to breach the recommended aspartame intake.
Aspartame has become a mainstay of many people's diets, as a huge push to crackdown on sugar over the past few decades has led to the mass usage of artificial alternatives.
The leaked ruling from the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer's (IARC) was harshly criticized by some experts yesterday, with some even going as far to calling it 'dumb'.
And today, Professor Gunter Kuhnle, an expert in nutrition and food science at the University of Reading, slammed the WHO leak as causing unnecessary panic.
'So far, we have a leak but neither the actual opinion nor the data supporting that opinion,' he said.
'In my opinion, it is worrying that claims without supporting data are published, as this makes it impossible to assess and interpret them properly.
'Creating health-related panic is – in my opinion – always a very bad idea.'
He added that he himself would continue to consume products containing aspartame.
'I won't change my behaviour...

Will we get the truth?
Which people are the true experts? If another expert disagrees with WHO experts, is he then a conspiracy theorist? Are people allowed to question the narrative in this case?

The effects of sugar are readily apparent.
Fifteen cans. Tell these geniuses to look up cyclamates.:
Got to really keep those cancer rates up if WEF is to meet its depopulation goals by 2030. They missed their genocidal target bigly in 2021.
Aspartame—True or False? Narrative Review of Safety Analysis of General Use in Products

2. Aspartame Metabolism
Aspartame consists of two amino acids (L-phenylalanine and L-aspartic acid). It is hydrolyzed and absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract (GI) through the action of esterase and peptidases. Digestion releases methanol (10%), aspartic acid (40%) and phenylalanine (50%) (Table 1), which are absorbable in the intestinal mucosa [10]. These metabolites can be harmful at high doses and hence prolonged aspartame consumption may be a risk factor [11,12]. Indeed, the metabolism products of aspartame are believed to be more toxic than the original substance itself [13,14]. Methanol is firstly oxidized in the liver to formaldehyde and again to formic acid; however, while methanol is known to damage the liver, formaldehyde and formate are also responsible for the destruction of liver cells.

One of the first and most serious allegations against aspartame consumption was its carcinogenic effect on the body; which has been attributed to its breakdown to harmful formaldehyde, with carcinogenic potential [135]. Consumption of 1 L of diet soda results in the transformation of approximately 600 mg of aspartame into 60 mg of formaldehyde [136,137,138], which greatly exceeds the ADI (0.15 mg of formaldehyde for every kg of body weight). There is clearly a great need for further studies to determine the impact of such aspartame metabolization.

Donald Rumsfeld and the Strange History of Aspartame
Yes, that Donald Rumsfeld, the “knowns and unknowns” guy who remarkably executed some of the worst decisions in American foreign policy and got a medal for it. I have been reading up on this strange chapter in the history of Donald Rumsfeld and have learned two things. One, the chemical additive aspartame is very potentially a cancer and brain tumor-causing substance that has no place in our food. And two, the reasons and means by which Rumsfeld helped get it approved are nefarious at best, criminal at worst. And by the way, that medal that Rumsfeld got back in 2004 was the Presidential Medal of Freedom, also awarded to Tommy Franks, George Tenet and that charming warrior L. Paul Bremer. Evidently, “Freedom” means the right to use your powerful friends in Washington to approve your company’s dangerous substance for human consumption and make a fat bonus on the way out the door. So how did aspartame become legal? And more importantly, if it had been rejected multiple times over fears of brain tumors and cancer, why?

They did this with saccharin. After many years of use with no effects, the warning label was removed.
I believe that cyclamates are still sold in Canada as a sweetener. Sweet ‘n Low in Canada is made with cyclamates.
Have no idea of the penalties if one brings back some artificial sweetener across the border.
i remember before the turn of the millenium of a big aspertame scare involving airline pilots. it was so big a scare that even Pat Robertson’s show spent time on it.
I understand that if you wear a mask the effects are much lower.
Obesity and diabetes have increased substantially since the rise of aspartame.
The irony here is that there is more debate AND research on the safety of artificial sweeteners than vaccines or, for that matter, the fauci clot shot...
Aspartame gave me a seizure.
It's only about 1%, but some of us are severely "allergic" (or whatever) to aspartame, to the point that it can seriously damage our health. Like any other chemical, it has harmful effects on some people.
I used to work with a diabetic nurse who drank a 12 pack of diet soda every shift.
