Kawanza is the most fake and Juneteenth is the most faked (possibly tied by Cinco de Mayo). None of the black folks I was raised around ever celebrated it and I never heard about it until some white people in Chicago told me about it. I figure it’s one of those “celebrated by liberal whites for minorities cuz minorities don’t know any better” kinda things.

And this should be a Republican-led holiday.

Even if the Republicans did lead it, the media sure wouldn't portray it that way. Remember this only became a Federal Holiday because somebody noticed Trump had a rally scheduled on it. Before then, few outside of Texas had even heard of Juneteenth.

Kwanza by far. It is in a league with Festivus.

both of them are BS. Neither one serves a valid purpose.

99.9999999% of the population will wake up and say: "oh, it's juneteenth. the banks are closed. What's for breakfast?"

Kwanzaa? is that a city in Africa? WTF is a kwanza?

when do we celebrate "White People Day" or "Straight Pride Day"?

When I was in college & Kwanza was first being popularized. Some intrepid crusading student journalist (Don’t all of them think they are?) of the student newspaper contacted the embassies of several African countries and asked about Kwanza. He/she wanted to get the true authentic story about Kwanza. The actual story about it being made up by an Afro-American professor with a criminal record just had to be racist. None of the embassies had ever heard of it let alone celebrated it! He\she interpreted the embassies lack of knowledge of it as leftover racist oppression from colonial days.

Kwanzaa is most made up. Juneteeth at least has a historical event that its ostensibly based on...albeit a bit like Cinco de Mayo it was a localized event that was artificially amplified to a supposed national one.

The problem is not so much the media but people like here in this thread that ridicule it, demean it, and essentially demonstrate their lack of history and their apparent racism.

Yes, there are social issues, crime, and so forth that one might see as unique to the black community, but that is a separate issue from celebrating Juneteenth.

NJ too. They grandfathered people who were slaves in 1808 to remain slaves for life. Slavery was ended by the 13th Amendment (1865) in NJ.

Agree, that makes it a Texas holiday.
Nationally it’s the passage of the 13th Amendment that ended slavery. If you’re celebrating the end of slavery in this nation, then celebrate the date that ended it nationally. Unless you have another agenda in mind.

This country needs more holidays now that we got Juneteenth in there. How about Ramadon Day, Ukraine Independence Day, National Crime Victim’s Day, Cinque D-milo, May Day for the commies, etc. Bottom line we’re going nuts with stupid holidays.

I think freeing the slaves was one of the five most important events in US history — I’m very comfortable celebrating that. So I respectfully disagree with your take on Juneteenth.

Lincoln’s Birthday would not be recognized had he not freed the slaves ie, the emancipation proclamation. We already have MLK Day which pays tribute to the blacks. I say enough with the BS.

WHAT?? How dare you slander Festivus. It’s the holiday for the rest-of-us. Intimidated by the feats of strength? I always look forward for my deliverance of the Airing of Grievances. This stuff has building up over the course of the year and it does me good to get it off my chest.

Juneteenth relates to freeing Texas slaves. Keep in mind slaves were previously freed in the majority of states long before that.
