Saw the movie in ‘84 when the Reagan economy was booming. A young Robert Redford and a decent-looking Meryl Streep. All one could think of is when they down to business in the sack.
My real take: Notice the evening outdoor scenes where they enjoyed their gourmet meals with their wine? Black servants of course. It was a response to the times(80’s). Think yuppies living it up. In the book version the Robert Redford really got around. Still, both actors hated Reagan. Go figure.
Then there’s the guy who died of syphlis I believe. At his funeral the blacks remained behind the fence to display the lack of inclusiveness among the ‘colonizers’. And his black mistress whose eyes met Streeps for just a moment? A real knockout-international model who dressed up very well(western) for the(western)funeral.
That same year or so. Spielberg comes out with a hit-piece on black men-The Color Purple. It was more of a guilt trip than ‘Roots’.was on whites. We’re being played. Need I say more?
If we’re all Out-of-Africa, do we all get that California Reparations payment?
Or will Cori Bush deny us?
Anything out of Africa I worship! - the bongo drum, the spear, etc.
