Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy announced Wednesday that popular host Ben Mintz was fired from the company after saying a racial slur while reading rap lyrics on a live stream earlier this week.
Portnoy said the decision was made by Barstool’s parent company, Penn Entertainment, despite protestations from himself, Barstool CEO Erika Nardini, and longtime talent Dan Katz that Mintz — rapping the song “1st of Tha Month” by Bone Thugz-N-Harmony — had made an honest mistake.
“This morning, I made an unforgivable mistake slipping on air while reading a song lyric,” Mintz tweeted Monday morning after reading the slur aloud during his show “Wake Up Mintzy.” “I meant no harm & have never felt worse about anything. I apologize for my actions. I am truly sorry & ashamed of myself.”

so repeating something in a rap song is egregious enough to fire someone? wow
Jeez, Portnoy stock just dropped to minus zero, what a putz. Free speech, ya damn moron.
Yeah, just once I’d like to see someone stand up and tell the complainers to pound sand. Instead, they grovel and blubber, and the offended ones aren’t going to forgive them anyway.
Congress should pass a bill approving the use of the N word. If blacks can use it we all can.
My son is a good friend of her (ex) husband. I guess she’s a piece of work.
Right. If it’s OK for any group to use that word, it’s OK for everyone to use it. No need for a federal law, though, if the First Amendment were to be taken seriously.
Never apologize.
Bill Maher can use it... I wonder what the difference is???
