In 1938, Harvard researchers embarked on a decades-long study to find out: What makes us happy in life?
The researchers gathered health records from 724 participants from all over the world and asked detailed questions about their lives at two-year intervals.
Contrary to what you might think, it's not career achievement, money, exercise, or a healthy diet. The most consistent finding we've learned through 85 years of study is: Positive relationships keep us happier, healthier, and help us live longer. Period.
Relationships affect us physically. Ever notice the invigoration you feel when you believe someone has really understood you during a good conversation? Or a lack of sleep during a period of romantic strife?
To make sure your relationships are healthy and balanced, it’s important to practice “social fitness.”
We tend to think that once we establish friendships and intimate relationships, they will take care of themselves. But our social life is a living system, and it needs exercise.
Social fitness requires taking stock of our relationships, and being honest with ourselves about where we’re devoting our time and whether we are tending to the connections that help us thrive.

Antifa, BLM and the other tools of the deep state understand this well. This is exactly why the seek to disrupt social harmony above all else.
Now that’s social fitness!
It’s been said that married men live longer than single men.
Some say it just seems that way.
as Curley would say “That one thing”
Wanna live forever? Seek ye the path of the Lord!
Positive relationships.
As Rush used to state, liberals wake up every day angry. They surround themselves with other angry people. They are also very negative. The good fortune to have been born in the greatest country ever is actually a main point of challenge and controversy.
I have developed the practice of pointing out the positive aspects of almost any situation. This has driven more than a few liberals away, which is fine. Less negativity is a welcome result. To them I say: Don’t go away mad, just go away.
This could have been boiled down to a headline on what it was with no story.
Such a sweet truth. When we nurture our relationships, don’t they live better and longer too?
Wait until AI devours us.
Interesting.
There was a time where the news actually gave you useful information.
Today the news is full of trash. Seriously, try this once. Watch the news for 3 hours straight one day. Have a note pad handy and write down things that they say which you think could be useful for you in any way. Then after you’re finished watching review the notes and through out the junk, see what you left with?!
After watching the news for 3 hours straight, what did you get from it?
Ask yourself, what factual and actionable information did I get which I can use in my life to improve my finances may that be for future purchase or retirement, my health, the health of my children or spouse, my safety while traveling or at home, my education???
What you will notice, after 3 hours of watching the news, you will have ZERO information which is unbiased, objective, factual information that can be used for your benefit. Even the weather report will be sensationalist, have political messaging, and not necessarily steer you in the best direction (pun intended).
The quality of the “news” is abysmal. So bad that it’s questionable if they are even worth watching. They do little to no true investigative reporting (that is done by the fringe media like Project Veritas or INFOWARS etc.). In fact, the MSM today actually conceals and suppresses what would have been considered investigative, breaking and major news years ago, example: Hunters Laptop before the elections.
The big corporate media is basically 100% lockstep with either party which they are aligned with or big corporate interests. They will NOT bite the hand which feeds them!
Even so called “news” is mostly advertising. Product advertising, “the new Iphone XXX is out,” or “Disney has a new ride,” or “the newest and largest cruise ship has been built,” Or you have political advertising, bashing the opponent and framing ones own favored candidate in a positive light. The nastiest of them all IMHO are the product and political sales where they are very forceful, “a new and deadlier than ever strain of flu is out,” followed by “the new flu vaccine is available.” That news is followed by an actual commercial because the news which was selling wasn’t good enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAkQlZgnbUQ Yes, it is literally that obvious. They do not even attempt to conceal it anymore.
But to this article posted, it actually tells you something useful, thoughtful, something which has a value to some folks out there. But those times just like the era of reporting where it was “just the facts ma’am,” (1950s) are long gone.
You want to have positive relationships? Get yourself a gaggle of grandchildren.
“You want to have positive relationships? Get yourself a gaggle of grandchildren.”
I’ve found this to be true. Grandkids are fun. And when you’re tired, you just hand them back and go home.
I learned this many years ago. There was a similar Canadian study. Of course, many people will say it should be obvious.
But I will add one observation. Many people seek happiness through fame, wealth, or power. These things are actually quite beneficial for the goal of building strong relationships with others. The problem is that many seek them as ultimate goals. The Bible has a lot of counsel about friendships.
Proverbs 14:20-21 NKJV
The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor,
But the rich has many friends.
He who despises his neighbor sins;
But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
Proverbs 18:24 NKJV
A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
That only works if you like kids.
When my kids were little, my MIL wasn’t very kind to them, and actually nasty to them. They didn’t care much for her as a result.
When they got a little older she was better because they weren’t as annoying to her as they were when very young. It helped repair their relationships some, but I think the damage had been done.
Now she laments that they don’t want to spend time with her.
Actually, I’m with Conan on this one. “To see the smoke rising from their villages.”
Some of the longest-lived people just keep going on sheer cussedness and orneriness.
Exactly what I was thinking!
