Ha. I recall a pilot saying something similar. Nice to have a sense of humor when someone makes such a serious error.
Just keeping Austin weird.
Very similar to your experience I think, I was about an airliner many years ago that had to make a last second abort of a landing. This was in Albuquerque and was when I was traveling towards 50,000 miles per year.
The landing was aborted when about 100-200 feet off the ground. Seconds from touchdown, a military helicopter crossed in front after its takeoff from the apron.
With all the flying I have done, I had no idea a 727 had that much power in reserve. The pilot firewalled the throttle and pulled up to avoid collision. Another second and the plane was in a turn. A second after that, the wheels were sucked up. A few seconds after that the flaps were fully retracted and we were steeply climbing. Engines roaring, pushed hard into the seat first by g-force of the turn then by the acceleration. Things were under control now so the pilot got on the intercom to describe what was going on. Circled around then landed normally about 15 minutes later. Pilot and copilot fully earned their big $$$ that day.
I have had 3 close calls in aircraft and I was not really a frequent flyer. The one described at Atlanta, one in Raleigh (almost landing in the woods on a rainy morning) and a near mid-air collision in a Cessna 310, so close I could see the other pilot’s face as we passed each other as if we were on a highway.
I came to regard it as a matter of fate—me and the other passengers were not meant to die those days.
Recently, a tv show that reenacts airplane accidents did one on a plane that landed in the woods in Asia. The CGI was so realistic, I understand the term “triggered”.
I wonder what the pilot was either saying out loud at the time or what he said after landing that was not recorded.
I follow Kelsey a 747 Pilot on YT.
He is well informed.

My mom’s husband rented a plane while his was in the shop. The engine blew mid-air. As they were landing he saw another plane on the runway.
Quick decision: ditch on the grass or pull up and hope the engine holds together long enough to bring it back around.
He chose to climb and it worked.
just a little reminder... During the Obama admin, Valerie Jarrett looked at all the pay scales of jobs versus how many POC, and on that basis the #1 qualifications for Air Traffic Control became?..... BLACK + VAGINA. Yes folks these mishaps are the result of eliminating aptitude, skill, temperament, test scores, and merit (WHITE MALES) to hire and promote based on skin color and gender. We are reaping what was sown.
...another reason to fly Chinese Balloon Airlines

… the current policy is to deliberately favor less-qualified applicants over more qualified applicants in the name of obtaining the “right” racial and gender mix among air-traffic controllers. Advocates of “diversity” insist that discounting objective measures of ability and competence is harmless, but history shows that it can be deadly.

Trains, Planes and other forms of transportation are simply more unreliable and less safe under Mayor pete.
