Japan’s Covid death rate is at an all time high in the past few weeks. That means > 2020, 2021 and 2022.
The focus on this is to understand criteria. Covid deaths in Japan are happening at all time highs and with nearly no ventilator use. The virus is being found in heart tissue and kidneys and deaths are via failure of those organs. WHO guidelines for declaring a Covid death is “deaths caused by or substantially contributed to by the virus”.
China is a different story. China declares a Covid death ONLY if there is respiratory failure. Their official death numbers are low because of this departure from WHO guidelines.
The new variants attack hearts and kidneys, and they penetrate immunity. Immunity of any kind. That is why vaxed Japan is being smashed and that is why Sinovac didn’t work to stop it in China.
The BBC sent reporters into China and found hospitals packed and ditto crematoriums. The official numbers aren’t going to reflect this because of their declaration criteria. BBC estimates 15,000 Covid dead per day in China.
There is no herd immunity if variants penetrate all immunity.
