1994 I moved to San Francisco, stayed in a single occupant hotel for a couple of months a 10x10 room in North Beach for $500 a month until I found an apt. Neighbor was a guy from the midwest, we got to be buddies because he had a tv and liked football. He was a junkie but then on methadone for 5 years provided by the city. Section 8 housing which ment free hotel and $500 a month. He said he had a great life. Saw him 5 years later, no teeth, he had no idea who I was.
Sad to hear. It’s an evil policy. They’re not helping, it’s subsidizing death. You give an addict zero reasons to change.
I was in San Fran a few years back, downtown, it was zombie apocalypse. I saw homeless people in droves, people shooting up in the street. I offered food, nobody wanted that, they can get food - they need cash only, to fuel their addictions. It was shocking.
I’m in the Detroit area. Downtown DETROIT is far better and that’s saying something.
