Only when it is IFR.

Especially when it is IFR. Once in Vietnam, the field was less than PAR minimums. It wasn’t W0X0F, but not much better. I had a C-130 that had to land. I ran him down final, with PAR. Finally, he got the runway in sight and landed. Then he thanked me, and said I put him down on the runway center line. So, I thought to myself, of course I put you on the center line, cuz you did exactly what I told you to do, immediately when I told you to do it. We had good radar too. 🤗😅

I almost became a ATC back in the 80’s when I couldn’t get a job in the oil field. I had already taken the test and was scheduled to go to OKC for classes. But I opted for graduate school instead. I suppose I would still be sitting in a tower in Amarillo, Texas.
