China's COVID problem is about to get worse

t has been just over a month since China dropped its zero COVID approach to the pandemic. Since then the disease has spread rapidly in China’s cities and there is lots of evidence that many people have died (hospitals, funeral parlors and crematoriums in Beijing have been overwhelmed) but very few of those deaths get reported in the official COVID death toll.

Today the NY Times reports there’s reason to think the situation is going to get worse as the disease is now moving into rural areas where there are no real hospitals or treatment available for anyone who gets sick.

"The infections in Dadi Village, a corn farming community tucked between verdant hills in China’s remote southwest, started in early December when a handful of young people returned from jobs in big cities.

The nearest hospital was an hour away, and few could afford the $7 bus fare there. The village clinic is not equipped with oxygen tanks or even an oximeter to detect if someone’s blood is dangerously deprived of oxygen. It quickly ran out of its stockpile of five boxes of fever medicine, so officials told sick residents to stay home and drink lots of water…

China is bracing for an onslaught of infections in its fragile countryside as millions of migrant workers crowd onto trains and buses to leave factory towns, construction sites and cities, to return to their rural homes for the Lunar New Year holiday. The travel period, which begins Saturday and lasts 40 days, is expected to overwhelm the rural health care system only weeks after hospitals in wealthy cities like Beijing and Shanghai were buckled by the outbreak.

“What we are most worried about is that after three years, everyone … can finally go home for the new year to visit relatives,”

Hoping for a tipping point on the practice of “information influencers” embedded inside traditional and social media outlets.

A. No Chinese should be allowed to fly anywhere over lunar new year.

B. Chinese go to the hospital for a friggen hangnail. So if course their hospitals are overrun.

The Chicoms have been cooking up new crap to flood the world again because She is a moron and China’s Potemkin economy is disintegrating like a Nazi’s face after opening the Ark of the Covenant.

Just remember 500,000,000 people maximum to inhabit the earth. That was the goal printed on the Georgia Guide Stones.

This is just China’s way of defusing their demographic timebomb of too few births and too many old people.

China has also received offers of help from the US, specifically offers of the much more effective US vaccines.

ROTFLMAO

much more effective US vaccines

There's a rib tickler. More effective? Yeah, probably, if your goal is to thin the herd.

China is where it is because they did not let the virus run its course. Even the US's more limited lockdowns have down widespread damage to people's immune systems - particularly those of children. Note the surge in RSV and "tripledemics" with kids.

Fair guess the chicoms have the original more deadly kovid krap going around, their massive shutdowns likely kept the milder variants from around the world infecting their population.

Infectious Disease ping – China's Covid infection rate is climbing, and expected to get worse (40 day Lunar New Year Holiday)
At the Lunar New Year holiday in China, most folks return to their native villages,
which will increase the infection rate and surely spread to the ill-equipped rural villages

Infection rate is pretty much meaningless in a relatively benign, non-fatal illness. All it means is they are achieving herd immunity faster.

If this were Ebola of the Black Death, that would be different..

It’s not.

Plus, I would expect their infection rate to skyrocket when they let up on their inhumane, draconian lockdown policies.

If they had let it rip through their population in the first place instead of killing people off for their own good in order to save their lives, then they’d have this long past them by now.

BS.

They are just giving cover to FJB to lock down the country again, this time permanently.

Gosh, all the "official" sources are just not catching up to the rhetorical panic being reported and re-reported "wrap up smear" style as Pelosi taught. In this case, Hot Air -- what a name, eh? -- re-reports the New York Times, and then re-reports Bloomberg.

Alas, Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center is saying deaths in China are 17,459 as of today. Source: https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/region/china

Ah, prose is so much a finer medium in which to generate panic of the pandemic sort than actual numbers and statistics. What do numbers know when "The infections in Dadi Village, a corn farming community tucked between verdant hills in China's remote southwest, started in early December when a handful of young people returned from jobs in big cities."

Narrative. Women and children hit hardest. Especially if People of Color, capitalized. Numbers, trust them? Not when you've got prose. Pros writing prose.
