The Bar Mitzvah ceremony takes place individually, around the time the Jewish boy celebrates his 13'Th Birthday.
Christian Confirmation takes place in groups, annually, in a High Mass

Still remember Bobby Hill saying. "The catholic and jewish boys getting a ceremony, us protestant kids get noting".
Mods pull if you wish
The Catholic kids aren't expected to read from and interpret the Torah?
Regards,
My Germanic-Dutch/catholic relatives gave nothing for confirmations. I was always jealous of my Italian catholic-school classmates who would collect $$ many hundreds on their first communions and confirmations. Let's not even get into weddings....
What is the difference between a Catholic Confirmation and a Jewish Bar Mitzvah?
JESUS
well, ours was co-ed and i think the Jewish are separate
I’m no expert, but it seems to me the required learning Jewish Bar Mitzvah is about 100 times harder than confirmation. I had a Jewish boss and went to his son’s Bar Mitzvah. I went to a couple of others, too. I was amazed how much the kids had to learn and memorize.
Only difference I thought of as well! The Saviour! Pretty big difference!
2. Catholic children take on the name of a saint.
When I was confirmed, we all lined up at Mass to approach the bishop. Each of us held an index card in our hand, bearing the name of our chosen saint, so the bishop would know what name to recite as he confirmed us, one by one.
It depends on the Jew. I've known secular Jews who were raised in "culturally Jewish" (but not too religious) families. One of them, now a libertarian atheist, told me he barely had to learn anything. Just a few phrases in Hebrew.
I’m no expert on Catholic (or other more ritualistic denominations) confirmations, but I never got the impression it was treated like a big personal party declaring the child to be an adult.
about $100
Wow, big difference. As I recall my boss’ son had to learn so much of the Torah and recite passages before the congregation.
They are not comparable...
Silly thread?
"Our mother"?
Plenty of secular Jewish horror stories about bar mitzvah boys getting professional cheerleaders or strippers, or other shameless expensive indulgences to help celebrate.
Traditionally, the Jewish boy begins putting on his own tefillin, which cost many hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Being called to the Torah reading minimally requires reciting a few blessings and following along with the official reader. Reading aloud to the congregation on his own is optional, depending on the congregation.
For many Jewish boys, it is their last participation in Judaism, at least until a parent dies and they want to say Kaddish.
“The catholic and jewish boys getting a ceremony, us protestant kids get noting”.
Well, this protestant boy got circumcised and nobody asked me.
I haven’t been to either for a very long time, but I remember the food being much better at bar mitzvahs.
So thankful many of us were confirmed with our patron saint name. In!... just under the wire, (before VII resulted in NO era) and before taking the saint name becomes increasingly met with, “Oh, we don’t dooh that anymore”.
Forever, thankful.
Not much really, they are both superstitious made up ceremonies to appear religious.
