My dog was riding with me on my Virago on a trip to South Florida . I stopped for gas and a cup of coffee and to let her get her own relief then drove off without her. Ten or so miles down the road I realized she was not with me and went back to the gas station. As I pulled into the lot she trotted out of the woods and I hoisted her to her place on the gas tank and we went on down the road.
I bet that was a traumatic ten miles probably driving well above the limit - followed by a joyful reunion and a few extra treats! So happy for you it turned out to be all good.
