A soldier with broken time as a result of his love of bourbon whiskey could soon become the third man to hold the rank of General of the Armies.
The proposed fiscal 2023 James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act would let President Joe Biden posthumously promote Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, who retired with the rank of General of the Army, to General of the Armies -- a rank only held by Gen. George Washington, posthumously, and Gen. John "Black Jack" Pershing of World War I fame.
Grant became the country's first four-star general in 1866. For the past year, members of Congress have worked to promote the general to mark the 200th anniversary of his birth on April 27, 1822.
On the House side, Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Mo., led a bipartisan effort to promote the former president, while on the Senate side, Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, led the charge.

Given what they have done to Civil War history, I would vote no.
Just as idiotic as apologizing for things 150 years ago.
This guy is consistently listed among the worst presidents in U.S. history. If anyone should be replaced on paper currency by Harriet Tubman, it should be him, not Andrew Jackson or Alexander Hamilton.
Why not Emperor, or Caesar?
How about “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived”?
Waaaait....let’s rewrite history, starting with J6....
He established the Department of Justice.
My junior high school was named after Grant. The school was later de-funded and re-purposed.
Funny story. The school sports mascot used the same image as Yosemite Sam but was the Grant General. When the trademark owning studio objected, the locals first said “Hah. What are they gonna do about it now?” One answer, they hired workmen to cut into and tear up the section of the basketball court floorboards with Yosemite Sam. Was replaced by another design later.
While we're at it, let's have the government identify every American who might have had an ancestor who was a slave, and send each of them a check for $1 million - no wait, better yet, $1 BILLION dollars!
;>)
Mainly to fight the Klan!
It would be more fitting to revoke the establishment of the federal Department of Justice as a posthumous slap in Grant’s face for the tyranny he created and under which we all now suffer.
I dunno. Did he use the right pronouns?
When Grant occupied Richmond, the only lawfully-owned slave in the city was the handmaiden to his wife, Julia (who also happens to be entombed with her hubby).
Since Missus Grant owned slaves (plural, as she once went on record claiming she owned four), unless I am very much mistaken, under 19th century laws governing marital property, that makes Hiram Ulysses Grant (his given name) a slave-owner.
Virtue signaling
Grant was the greatest American general of all time. And in the last 20 years there has been a major reevaluation of his presidency. He deserves it.
If I recall correctly, General Sherman had the same problem.
Biden will never promote Grant. Grant was a Republican.
On lists created by Democrat historians.
How many stars is General of the Armies?
No, only Washington should have thar rank.
