yours. What especially makes it so maddening is that you can’t escape, you must endure any disruptions to your day.
One man took to Reddit’s “Am I the A–Hole?” forum to express his frustrations while flying one day. He wanted to find out if he was wrong for yelling at a mother to control her children.
“Am I the A–hole?” is a place where people can write about conflict in their lives.
The 39-year-old began the post by revealing that he was on a flight from New York to London.
His seat was in front of a woman and her two young sons, while her husband sat behind them.
He notes that it is important to recognize the family is Indian, and he is American-Indian.
So the plane takes off and the boys “start yelling about how this is the best day ever,”,but the man in front of them just tunes them out with his headphones.
Eventually, he felt something “digging” into his back, and he turned around to see that the young boy had his feet “jammed” into the seat.
He asked the mother if she could tell her son not to sit that way, and she did.

A few years ago while on a plane with my 5 year old daughter I noticed her kicking the seat in front of her and told her to stop. I then asked the person in that seat to let me know if it happens again, the passenger never said anything to me so I can only assume my daughter stopped.

He notes that it is important to recognize the family is Indian, and he is American-Indian. I stopped there. Seems like he's the A-hole because he thinks that stuff matters.

In the old days, parents would want to raise at least one child well, as one of your children would take care of you in your old age. And, that child would get the double-portion in your will.
Nowadays, we have Social Security and reverse mortgages.

>>” Indians are not looked upon well by other travelers.”
I have had lots of issues with other travelers of a certain race behaving badly on airlines, but its never been Indians.

When the kid kicked his seat a second time he should have gotten a flight attendant involved.

You shouldn't have stopped, that becomes pertinent in a good way. He chastised the woman in Hindi as her children were a poor reflection on people like him as well. He was most certainly NOT seeking special privileges.
We need a little more of this kind of push back when it is called for.
When I was younger, I went with a brilliant polyglot friend to a middle eastern restaurant. He was Lebanese-Irish by ethnic heritage, so he knew both Gaelic and four different flavors of Arabic.
The restaurant had all sorts of printed Arabic writing on the walls. I kept on asking him what it said. He quietly stated, "Its Koran." I stupidly did NOT take the hint, " and kept at it, "I know but what does it say?"
Eventually, the man behind the counter, as we were paying our bill, suggested that my friend didn't really know Arabic. This set him off, he shouted at them in Arabic "I speak what I want, and when I want, and I will not speak for worms like you."
Afterwards, he told me that he did not want to speak Arabic because his accent would reveal where he had been in Lebanon (he had been VP of the Catholic University of Lebanon), and that could be problematic. Plus, they had the audacity to charge extra for the pita bread and the portion sizes were insufficient. He has since passed away, and the world is worse for it.

The answer is in the article.
*** The third time that the man felt something on his back was the last straw. He turned around yelled at the woman in Hindi:
“Are you from a village?! Have you never flown before?! Please discipline your children and tell them to stop messing with my seat!”
“People like you give Indian travelers a bad name, and that is why people don’t like travelling with us!”***

Maybe most of them want to reflect well on themselves and their families. I agree, no problems with eastern Indians.

Dad woulda found himself in the front seat seeing how he liked that crap........and the flight attendants shoulda seen to that......but alas they are now too occupied making sure your stupid covid mask that does absolutely nothing is covering your nose.
Commercial jets.......are now the greyhound buses of the 21st century. SMH

About six years ago, I had a kid kicking the back of my seat. I asked his mother (nicely) to please have him stop. She smirked at me and said “boys will be boys.” He did it again and I told him to stop. Mom was not pleased I tried to correct her son, and told me so. He started again. I got up on my knees in the seat, leaned over, and screamed at him: “I SAID STOP KICKING MY (f-word here)ing SEAT!!!!” Kid was crying, mom was angry, passengers were high-fiving me, and the flight attendants were laughing (and gave me free beer).

My sense was to diffuse any racist charge from the incident? Still stupid, as people hate people regardless…family, friends, society, racial kin, whatever.
