I made an order with GE August 5. Paid for a combo microwave/oven. Mine is 12 years old and the microwave stopped working. I had the tech out and he told me he can repair it but when the stove goes they do not make parts for it anymore. Suggested I might just get a new one.
My kitchen has it such that my old combo microwave/oven is set in a cabinet that has no room for expansion on either side. Hence I am forced to buy the only combo microwave/oven that fits, and that is GE's product.
So I ordered it. They make you pay up front. The order for that particular oven is on back order. Every month I get an email, "Hello .......,
We apologize for the delay on your appliance order and any inconvenience this may cause.
Rest assured, we are doing all we can to get your order shipped as quickly as possible and will contact you as soon as we are able to schedule a delivery date.
Sincerely, The GE Appliances Store team
I get these at the beginning of every month and have since August 2022 when I ordered it.
I have called twice, am put on hold for 2 hours, second time robot informs me to press one and they will call me back. I will not lose my place online.
First call last month the girl on the phone said it is looking like it will be another month. She is not privy to any information as to why it takes so long but back order products do take this long routinely. There is nothing more she can tell me, like who is working on it, if it is being worked on, what is the hold up.
Second call, same info, but added it could take up to a year, these things do and have and maybe even longer. I told her my oven still works but if it goes out I have no way to cook until I get that oven. It was the same answer, she has no way to access the reason why, when it will be delivered, what is the hold up, blah blah blah.
So my question to FR is, should I file a complaint with the Attorney General or will that just create a problem for me? They could drop me. I have researched all other companies that make these things, all new oven microwave/combos are 33 inches or larger. Mine needs to be 30 inches. The cabinet on one side ends with my cooktop and tile right up to the microwave/combo, the other side is a hall.
Remodel time!
I put down 20k on a house to be built and then had to cancel but the builder wouldn’t give me my money back - some woman arbitrarily just said NO. So...I sent a letter to the AG and guess what - I got my money back right away.
Yep.
Are they refusing to refund you? If so AG. Otherwise they haven’t done anything illegal.
Made in China, no doubt.
Get new cabinets.
It’s only been four months, bunkie.
GE appliances are now owned by a Chinese company.
You sure about that?

Would this work instead?
Waited three months for a Whirlpool gas cook top thru Lowe’s. But it was on sale for $400 off and I wasn’t bypassing that opportunity. It matched the existing kitchen appliances and fit the granite counter opening perfectly. To this day, that cook top has not been reduced again.
Hang in there!
I usually say....never mind...I'll call corporate....and boy does that move walls.
Repair the microwave.
The combo wall over is 3500. to remodel is around 30 grand.
What do you need an oven for?
Crickets and centipedes are dried and don’t require cooking.
Trying to exceed your CO2 limit?
Why do you want what you don’t need?
There are several 30” on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=built+in+microwave+ovens+30+inches+wide&crid=10EVPANWGXC15&sprefix=30%27+wide+microwave%2Caps%2C192&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_18
You know that was not on there when I last looked for one, in August.
That DOES look as if it could be workable.
I have a guy from Lowes coming out to help me, to measure and check it all out and I’m showing him this to see (however he probably already will know their products) but if that works I certainly would get this.
I appreciate the helpful response. Right now I am so down about it I am thinking of getting a glass of wine and blowing off the rest of the afternoon. This really picked up my spirts whether or not it would work, I do appreciate the helpful kind post.
TexasGator: that was my first move but the tech from GE who came out and looked at it said the oven is prob going to go at some point soon if the microwave has already gone and the repair parts for that oven are no longer made.
Get a NINJA air fryer and be happy. Chicken wings and reheated pizza will make any grumpy person happy.
