Hundreds of sea lions are taking over a Ventura County beach

A mass migration of sea lions is making a splash, with hundreds taking over the sandy shores of a Ventura County beach.

Experts say sea lions have historically been a part of Silver Strand Beach but in recent years, many more have made their way over, a migration that’s mostly caused by human influences.

Many sea lions can be seen relaxing and sunbathing on the sands of Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard.

“This is their place,” Connie Korenstein, a Silver Strand resident, tells KTLA’s John Fenoglio. “I feel honored that they’ve chosen to be here.”

Just a few months ago, hundreds of mostly young sea lions started moving in, nestling into their new home on the shore.

Westin visits his grandmother who lives in the area and they would typically go swimming together in the beach before the recent influx of sea lions moved in.

When asked what the area now smells like, Westin said, “It kind of smells like poop.”

Other residents though, aren’t really bothered by the scent.

“I mean that’s how they smell,” said an Oxnard man named Bruce.

They do that. They smell and make noise. Let’s see how the liberals deal with it.

"One expert says human interactions and climate change are the top contributors."

Of course he doesn't provide any evidence for "climate change" being a factor in this phenomena, but he is obliged to say it because it is unchallengeable conventional wisdom and it sets off some kind of pheromone for those of his listeners indoctrinated in the ways of Woke culture.

I don’t get the fascination some people have in watching the sea lions. They are fat, blobby, crabby and greedy. They wallow and frolic in waters that reek like the biggest outdoor latrine in the country. But, to each his own idea of fun and diversion. I’d rather watch a pair of horned rams butting heads to win some fair maiden.

There has been a population explosion of California Sea Lions, due to the Marine Mammal Protection Act. If they continue to increase at 5-6% a year, Californians sre going to have to make some decisions. I expect they’ll hatm people, rather than sea lions. We’re inundated with the males, in Oregon. No breeding population.

Couldn't they boink all the left coast liberal girly men?

Then eat them when they are done? Sort of like black widows.

Who or what is Westin? How do you swim in the beach? Sounds kind of sandy.

Hats off to author Vivian Chow for not letting functional use of English be an impediment to her career as a journalist.

You have never seen a sea lion frolicking underwater.

Their aqua-batics can be mesmerizing. Far from wobbling.

now and then one may “charge” you and “bark” in your face in play.

My bad...thought if was the NuclearNerd spanking thread. I‘d say SoCal has bigger problems than sea lions. Weren’t they there first? Just taking back their beaches.

The flats off Ventura/oxnard are supposedly pupping grounds for great white sharks.

Guess they do not see the sea lions as food until they get older.
