More than 300 people are still dying each day on average from covid-19, most of them 65 or older, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention...roughly two to three times the rate at which people die of the flu...
Today, nearly 9 in 10 covid deaths are in people 65 or older — the highest rate ever, according to a Washington Post analysis of CDC data.
Epidemiologists tend to divide the pandemic into three distinct periods. In the first year, from March 2020 to March 2021, the United States experienced about 500,000 deaths. The toll was about the same the following year. In the third year, the nation is on track to lower that count significantly, to 150,000 to 175,000 deaths — barring a curveball in the form of a new variant.
That means that coronavirus is likely to rank third as a cause of death this year. By comparison, heart disease and cancer kill roughly 600,000 people each year; accidents, 170,000; stroke, 150,000; and Alzheimer’s, 120,000. Flu, in contrast, kills 12,000 to 52,000.
Last month, people 85 and older represented 41.4 percent of deaths, those 75 to 84 were 30 percent of deaths, and those 65 to 74 were 17.5 percent of deaths, according to a Post analysis. All told, the 65-plus age group accounted for nearly 90 percent of covid deaths in the United States despite being only 16 percent of the population.
When hospitals were hit with a crush of patients in the spring of 2020, some of the debates about allocating scarce resources centered on age. In documents drafted by some medical institutions, “stage of life,” a proxy for age, was sometimes recommended to be used as a tiebreaker in decisions about who should get a ventilator or a bed.

Sicker people are much more likely to die, be disabled, or be dysfunctional. That’s not news but is verified by all of life.
It’s not like the Washington Post writer suggests — that we need to go and see that an equal number of young and healthy people die for there to be equal rights and opportunity in the US and the world.
If I don’t want to die, it is primarily my responsibility to ensure that — and not everybody else’s responsibility to ensure that I never get sick (or injured) or in this case, attain one more comorbidity and complication that threatens my existence. No, it is not my right to wear headphones into the New York City subway at 4am thinking nothing “should” happen to me. It is primarily my responsibility to do everything I can to reduce my risks as much as humanly possible — beginning with achieving my best health. That is what life is all about — for every species that has ever existed. Those are simply the facts of life.
However, I realize some people only get paid to write such articles if they distort every other fact of life to make their point — exclusively hired by the mainstream media while censoring and suppressing all intelligent and insightful perspectives. That is the great problem of these times.
This is exactly as intended. People with chronic health conditions that require care beyond the occasional accident or acute health issue are going to cost the system more. If they simply die, think of the money that can be saved. Also the savings from social security and pensions. Also taxes that can be collected by the state at death. This was what gain of function is all about. They target the body systems that are most likely to be compromised in older and fatter individuals. People who smoke and overeat and lay around watching TV. Of course the downside is fewer customers for tobacco and junk food companies and of course the pharmaceuticals advertised on the TV that they lay around watching.
The bribes are back and increasing:
You are old? Take lots more D3 than the young. Minimum 10000 daily with K2. As you get older your ability for you skin to manufacture sunshine related D3, decreases.
I had covid in the winter of 2020/21 and it was tolerable at the very worst. I had fever and some cough and body aches but I would not describe it as pure hell. I sometimes think people exaggerate how unpleasant it was number one because it was a long time ago and number two they want sympathy and number three they are pu&&ie&.
lol....but true.
A left wing that celebrates the death of unborn babies I can’t take seriously when the bemoan the death of the elderly.
I’m guessing your regular exercise helped with your speedy recovery. Nice to hear you’re doing well
I think the article was written to try to cover up vaxx-related deaths.
Pneumonia vaccine will be pretty much useless for Covid induced pneumonia because covid will make the older person in bad physical shape so weak, there is little chance of killing the pneumonia bacteria. Vaccine does not “prevent” infection, only function of vaccine is to create anti-bodies. If pneumonia is from non-covid origin, the vaccine can be very useful due to anti-bodies present to kill the pneumonia bacteria.
However, the cause of death is almost always listed as pneumonia - NOT influenza.
I find it curious that the USA medical community urges elderly and infirm Americans to protect themselves from influenza induced pneumonia, but they say NOTHING about Covid induced pneumonia.
Best friend had COVID pneumonia. Turns your lungs to ice.
Almost died
Pure blood
Saved by God
Smell is still off
May be because patients who develop covd induced pneumonia have a dismal survival rate. Medical community is unlikely to admit they have no clue how to save covid induced pneumonia patients except attach them to a ventilator and hope they survive.
I would have died long ago (like in my mid-60’s) if I did not resign from my job at age 57, and started walking 30 miles every week playing golf. AT age 75 I quit golf and now it is boring treadmill and some light weight lifting. Golf was never boring and which is why I played for 17 years full time golf.
May be I called it pure hell because I have not been sick in 15 years. Not even a simple cold. Can’t even remember when I had a cough last. So it was a shock to be hit so suddenly where I had trouble walking, body aches all over, feverish feeling even though the fever never excceded 100F, and that horrible unrelenting cough which made my diaphram muscles hurt with every cough. It felt like pure hell due to the suddenness of the atatck, but very lucky those severe symptoms disappeared in 48 hours. There must be anti-bodies present in large quantity to accomplish that.
The author is being shady picking Mar 2021. If you look at current deaths (1M+) it appears on the surface that the deaths under Biden are equal to the deaths under Trump. But that’s misleading because Dec 31 could be considered beyond the end-date of the Trump admin control over the covid response since the Biden admin bragged they were taking control immediately after the Nov election.
Covid deaths to Dec 31, 2020 were 336,802 and, as the MSM crowed loudly, were solidly on Trump’s plate. The deaths from Dec 31 to Mar 7, 2021 (178K) were under control of the Biden admin, same as the deaths since March 2021 (573K), giving a current total under Biden of 751K, twice the rate of covid deaths under the Trump admin. Which doesn’t say much for the Biden response given the original covid was a higher mortality risk with less tools to fight back than with the delta and omnicron variants under Biden’s watch.
The MSM is noticeably silent on this.
