Just to be clear, I assume your response means there is no way Russia would ever give up Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, etc., or any of the other territory it currently occupies in a peace settlement?
Bullshit. The United States will do what Soros and Biden’s handlers say. Amd when they say. The Soros worshipers and Biden Worshipers [On Free Republic alone there are oodles[a hell of a lot] of them. When their Masters give them the word, they will rise in one accord and make their Master’s wishes happen.
Putin has to exit Ukraine unconditionally on his part. He is in no position to be dictating terms and his constraint on NATO is DOA.
For once I fully agree with you.
Realistically, this is almost equivalent to that. Ukraine basically gets its borders back, and as a bonus Russia's Black Sea fleet has to leave Sevastopol, and the rest of Crimea is demilitarized
I don't think the Ukrainian people themselves would believe that the cost in extra Ukrainian lives is worth fighting over the difference. And if this was the deal, this war will go down in Ukrainian history as one of the defining events in their history. They fought to survive as a country, defeated the Russian invasion, and won.
“Supposedly the goal is to have a deal by Christmas.”
Now let’s slow roll them in negotiations, until demilitarization is complete. Christmas 2023 should do nicely.
Dangle a deal as leverage to prevent a WMD or electric grid destruction, but let the Artillery do its work.
Then we can get a better deal.
Free Crimea! Novo Belarus in NATO! Karelia rejoins Finland!
Constitutional reform in Russia!
Putin is his own worse enemy.
Prove Me Wrong.
They retain the Donbass or, all of what they have EAST of the Dnieper river.
For them to have crossed the river was a strategic mistake UNLESS, they were prepared to advance and take Odessa.
But to think they will give up territory at the whim of some fantasy is laughable in the first degree.
As for “The” Ukraine, WAAAAAYYYY back when this situation got out of control I, that means me, said that what “The” Ukraine needed to do was drive the Russian forces BACK ACROSS the river and establish better defencable positions.
BTW..since those of you who are on here cheering on Bidens “Victory” in the mid terms, what is your take on the situation in Haiti? Are you for or against the invasion and occupation of Haiti by US forces?
I never supported U.S. troops in Ukraine, and certainly don't support them in Haiti.
Concerning “The” Ukraine.
What I believe will happen, or at least should be considered is...those regions under contention should be declared independent-per the prior agreement that was dissolved and ignored-Minsk Agreement.
I do not think that “The” Ukraine will agree to that, AND, I doubt that Russia will agree to that.
The sad part is that whatever is the settlement “The” Ukraine will lose territory to re-establish a type of contentious peace. If that is agreed upon, they will continue to shell each other across the newly established borders and the fight continues.
The ultimate result worldwide is that the US Dollar will no longer be the benchmark it once was and that countries will move to shove the importance of USA involvement in world affairs away.
The USA will become the new socialist country the new wave hookers in DC have been seeking for years or since WW2. The USA will become isolated.
The regions currently "under contention" include vast portions of Ukraine that had nothing to do with the Minsk Agreements, but that Russia took and annexed anyway. And all of the regions currently under contention were protected as inviolate Ukrainian territory under the Budapest Agreements, which were signed freely back in 1993 by Russia.
“I just don’t see how Putin willing accepts this.”
Putin might not, but his successor might very well accept it. I think Putin’s days are numbered: He has caused Russia great embarrassment. And no country will support a leader who has brought about national humiliation.
” Where can the Russian Black Sea fleet go if they can’t use Sevastopol?”
Sochi. The Caucasus.
No, it’s not enough to defeat Russia’s recent invasion they have to defeat the last one and in doing so defeat the next one. There’s also the matter of a couple trillion dollars worth of oil and gas in the sea near Crimea. Ukraine needs those resources to rebuild and damn Russia if they’ll get to profit from this war of theirs.
Taking Crimea would be a very long and bloody fight that Ukraine may well not win. The Russians would fortify the isthmus of Perekop, less than 5 miles wide, and there’s no way to flank it. Ideal defensive positions.
I don’t expect there will be much of a battle for Crimea. The Russians are going to end up leaving all on their own.
Why would they do that? They could give away everything to the north of there but still keep that.
Russia will be under sanction until they exit Crimea. And no way in Hell will they get to have a say in who gets to join NATO.
This whole “peace” thing coming on so quickly after Russia surrenders Kherson smacks of yet another coordinated narrative intended to distract from Russia’s latest defeat.
It is no more than a distraction just like their endless threats of nuclear weapons and their MIA hyperimaginary missiles.
I am not fooled.
The Russians are on the run and they should be chased out of Ukraine entirely.
I would think since the West is dictating terms to a defeated Russia it would include Russia withdrawing from Georgia too. Now is the time to make peace.
