I’ll confess when I was a kid and one neighbor was on vacation during Halloween and left a bunch of candy with a “Please take one” sign on their porch, I took quite a few more than just one.
But I was a kid when I committed that crime at least.

Happened to me in 2003, I was visiting my mom in ICU. She would die two days later. Set out treats and explained why I was not there. One of the kids told me the next day that some kid had tried to take handfuls of treats. The kid had stopped him and I heard the candy lasted for over an hour.
