I haven’t posted in a while because my Saturdays are so busy. Last day for my local farmer’s market. One of my favorite farmers is retiring this year. I think I will be spending the winter figuring out how to grow great lettuce.

We haven’t had a good enough frost for my plants outside to be pruned or pulled. I love having fresh basil in Halloween!

Off to get a couple more pie pumpkins at the farmer’s market. Great nutrition for the next few weeks!

I just snipped off the last of the leaves of my basil plant. I wish I had more! I brought the other herbs that are still producing in, and will use them for as long as I can (oregano, rosemary, tarragon, and marjoram).

I keep checking those shallots I planted a year ago. I think 2 of them may be ready to harvest soon. Not much of a showing, and I still have no idea what I’ve done wrong. What started as about 2 or 3 dozen tiny shallots has resulted in about a dozen that seem to be growing but ever so slowly. Next year I’m going to try something else. I’ve heard that you can grow new ones from store bought ones, but again, I have no idea if that’s true or not. I love using shallots in my cooking.
