A note aside. When my wife and I travelled to South Africa for a golf trip/Safari, etc, we toured Cape town.
The tour leader pointed out Robben Island, and remarked that we should remember that Mandela, still there, was a murderer and belonged there.
She did not mention Winnie Mandela, of the “rubber necklace,” fame.
