The odds of Johnson returning by spring 2023?

I watched some Brit journalist yesterday giving it now a 30-percent chance of happening.

PMs come and PMs go. Britain’s had worse. I thought it was about feckless Charles finally becoming King. Him they’re stuck with.

Britain's current problems, like ours, stem basically from the decision in both countries to order citizens to hide under their beds for a year and a half, starting in early 2020.

Of course our Rat Party knew that doing so would bring the economy to its knees...but to them that was a price worth paying for getting rid of Orange Man Bad.

I can't be sure why Britain did it but there was at least one member of Parliament,Sir Desmond Swayne, who made an outstanding speech addressing how horribly stupid it was to do so.At one point during that speech he said something like "Madam Deputy Speaker, there may someday be a virus that reaches our shores that would require desperate measures, but this isn't it" And he stressed those last words as the British upper class is known to do.

We Americans can completely understand your dilemma. For nearly two years, we have had an imbecile occupying our White House, being led around by shameless and corrupt handlers.

On top of that, although our system does have recourse for such a case, our Vice President is so stupid that the national consensus appears to be that we had best just put up with the imbecile for another two years.

The Atlantic is not a very good judge of such things.

Tax cuts promote economic growth every time they’re tried. Truss should have stuck to her guns. What left fears most is a return of Maggie Thatcher.

Like the US, the letter after a UK pol’s name means bugger all anymore.

The UK has a Deep State, too.

What it doesn’t have is a Trump.

And it needs one.

Now.

Re: "the markets concluded that her policies were insane"

Totally bogus reporting!

All of this was set in motion a month ago by a significant jump in UK and European inflation, which preceded any action by the new Prime Minister.

The value of the Euro against the US Dollar has crashed just as much as the UK Pound crashed.

The Bank of England, just like the European Central Bank, raised interest rates to fight inflation - NOT to protect the value of the Euro and the Pound versus the US Dollar.

The ECB and the Bank of England have been printing massive amounts of new money, just like the US Treasury, since the Covid crisis began in 2020.

The Truss tax cut would amount to a tiny fraction of that massive money printing.

Truss is a political weakling and a financial ignoramus!

Tom McTague’s utter hysteria about the horrific prospect of tax cuts (despite their historically great success in stimulating economic growth and tax revenue) makes me think he is auditioning for a show on MSNBC.

I wonder if Charles gave her a private phone message.

It is such a blatant 180.

I was hoping she would succeed. Not a chance now.

For the first time in my adult life, there is a genuine sense of decay in Britain—a realization that something has been lost that will be difficult to recover

I guess he's under 40. That sense was all over Britain before that. You lost the empire and the vestiges of Victorian/Edwardian Britain are gone. That was a big trauma after the war and into the 70s.
