Speaking of long trenches, MacGregor says when the ground freezes the Russians begin their offensive which will end this.
An offensive is not going to help the poorly trained newcomers and what is the word on those anti-personnel (ball-bearing) HIMARs?
“what is the word on those anti-personnel (ball-bearing) HIMARs?”
Those are the same rounds that the MLRS fired in the Gulf War. The famed Highway of Death combined different MLRS rounds (Fragmentation (ball bearing) and sub-munition (like a cloud of grenades) as well as air delivered ordnance.
We have a lot in inventory, and have moved away from that design in recent years, as “cluster bombs” got a bad reputation. The very common rocket Artillery with Russian forces is the truck mounted Grad (Hail) Multiple Launch Rocket System. Its also sports a variety of warheads available, but fragmentation for area effect against personnel and light equipment is probably the most common.
The HIMARS warheads are individually bigger than the Grad (there are fewer of them per load), and HIMARS has significantly longer range and much greater accuracy.
I understand that M26 ammo can’t be sent without an act of Congress because they are cluster munitions and since there has been no such act then at least the US hasn’t delivered them.
